    Another Attempt

    ZigZag,

I removed Norton A/V and was able to get it to boot in safe mode today. The BSOD event still occurs however. I was also able to run the BSOD Dump & System File Collection app. while is Safe Mode I have attached the zip file of its results.

As far as running the Performance Monitor, the error above keeps occurring and I seemingly cannot follow the BSOD instructions.

Driver verified and related to HIDCLASS.SYS (HID= Human Interface device) things like finger print readers, joy sticks etc.

Please run a system file check to verify and repair the OS files.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

How to use the System File Checker tool to troubleshoot missing or corrupted system files on Windows Vista or on Windows 7

Repair install or clean install may be required.

    System check

    ZigZag,

Thanks for sticking with me through this troubleshooting process.

I ran the System file checker and here was the result:

What is my next course of action?

Kevin SFC looks ok. The only thing I can think of is some failing HID hardware. Is this by chance and HP computer?

    ZigZag,

No, this a a computer I built from scratch using components purchased from Newegg.com. I built it at the end of August of 2011 and it has been working fine up until a few days ago...

I would be happy to provide a list of every installed component.

You know more often than not not all the crashes point to the same thing. WIth yours they do. There has to be something connected externally.

Do you game? Are you overclocking? How many unpowered USB devices do you have.

    Gaming

    ZigZag,

I do a fair amount of gaming in my spare time, probably 8-10hrs/week.

As far as unpowered USB devices, well there is a Logitech Joystick and a Microsoft mouse/keyboard combo. The Mouse/keyboard are the type where there is a bluetooth receiver for both mouse and keyboard, and that receiver plugs into the PC via USB. There is a Seagate 2TB external HDD as well, but it has its own A/C adapter and is self powered.

None of these devices are new though. The Joystick has been a part of the system since October, and the mouse keyboard was integrated around December. The External HDD was first used to backup my computer around early February.

    ZigZag,

I also forgot to mention something. I was wondering if updating drivers would help the issue so I went to the ASUS website where I got the BIOS from earlier and decided to update a few of the drivers, including USB drivers. Here is the website:

ASUS - Motherboards- ASUS P8P67 PRO (REV 3.1)

After Downloading the .zip file containing the "ASM USB 3.0 Driver V1.2.9.0 for Windows 32/64bit XP & Windows 32/64bit Vista & 32/64bit Windows 7" I unzipped it and attempt to install. Nothing happened. I have tried several different times and restarted 2 times and nothing. I even tried to run the executable using the elevated command prompt and it still did nothing.

Oh, and no, I am not overclocking, everything is as it came out of the box.

I have never owned Asus hardware so am at a bit of a loss. You need to focus on one thing at a time, eliminate it as a possibility, then move on. Otherwise you get lost

    ZigZag,

What would your recommended next course of action be?

I tried something based on another HIDCLASS.sys BSOD I saw while searching. I disabled my Bluetooth adapter and tried the Novabench test to recreate the error. It didn't happen; Nova bench competed the test completely. I thought that would be it, but then I tried to run PeerBlock 2 and it happened again, this time it said pbfilter was causing the trouble...
