The crashes could be as simple as opening a Windows Explorer window. Sometimes, it would take more and wait for me to close or move the window before it crashes.

The crashes would first consist of an error dialog message box. Then another one saying that Explorer is restarting. Taskbar disappears, windows disappear, then taskbar reappears minus the windows.

Often times, it does not happen right away. It only happens after I've used some applications for a while, like playing games or browsing the web. The crashes can occur while these other applications are running, although fortunately, none are terminated prematurely when it does.

I am using 64-bit Windows 7, running Firefox, playing games and so forth. I'll try it with Firefox uninstalled, and see if that doesn't fix it. I use sleep regularly, although I also shut down or restart at least once a week, which seems to solve the problem for a short while.

From the point of view of an end user and legitimate paying customer, I find these regular crashes to be frustrating and unacceptable.

I can agree it is unacceptable thats why I posted this here.
I have Installed Win 7 again and again so and now I have no more crashes
Its a software shell extentions problem I think, because it whas not only firefox that did the trouble also software like ***cisco network magic 5.5*** made my explorer crash everything would dissapear and also come back like it has to be.

Like you sayd it would happen after using software for a while.

So if you have a 3rd party software on the pc, see what happens if you uninstall it.
Uninstall the software that you might think is the problem of all of this.

And now if I Install a program and it gives me the same crashes then I uninstall it and the problem for me is gone.

Ow yes and also Winrar 3.80 BETA USB intergration shell that I tried doesnt work for me, it also make my windows 7 explorer crash.
So I use 7zip now to be 100% sure and safe.

I hope this works for you,

Greets DutchLady.

Windows Explorer crashing

Hi all,
I was having massive problems with this too. It may have been a combination of 2 things for me. What I did:
- Ran svc /scannow (or whatever its called) (no fixes found)

- Got CCleaner and cleared about 3Gb of temp files and cache (I think this is the step that fixed the My Documents crash)

- Also I uninstalled Google Desktop as well. Again I think it got broken from the frequent crashes.
The crashing seems to have broken chrome too:
- Uninstalled Google Chrome, removed App Data/Local/User Dir and reintalled. Copying over my bookmarks and login data files

Also, I found that the problem was specific to my windows login, so I could use another profile whilst I wanted to browse internet (using Mozilla or IE)

Hope this helps.
