Windows 7: Laptop Shuts Down Suddenly 0x8000000000000002

Hmmm ok. I just found an extra iPod cord and first I plugged it into the HP...all was well, it no longer disconnected and reconnected. I decided to try and plug it into the ASUS (where the problem first occured) and that same port where it would shut down right away following plugging the cord in, read the cord and iPod and so far no shutdown. I will wait to see what happens, but so far it looks like the problem has been resolved.

If it still does this, I will proceed to follow those steps that you posted, but based on what I have told you do you think that everything is fine?

I really appreciate the help. It is so frustrating to have to keep having issues with this laptop especially since I just got it back from RMA.

I do not think the reset steps are necessary at this time. See how the system responds for a few days and post back whether it is solved or not. Best of luck!

Ok. Thanks so much! I am hoping it was just the cord and nothing else!

Also, I am worried when you say that it could have shorted something on the motherboard...this isn't going to be a future RMA, is it?

You're welcome! I also have that hope.

As to the shorting behavior, it depends on whether you continue to have the problem. It may have just been the USB cord that was causing the short. Hopefully that is all it was and the laptop was just shutting down to protect itself. As I said, post back how the system is responding after a few days.

I hope not. I would really hate to have to RMA this laptop for the 4th time overall and 3rd time in a matter of less than 3 months LOL.

I will post back after a few days to let you know how it is. So far it seems ok...it hasn't shut down yet with this new cord plugged into the same two ports that I was having issues with.

If the motherboard did short what kind of issues would I start to have? Just so I know what to look out for. Thanks again! (I am sure it's a simple answer but I am total noobie when it comes to hardware)

If there is a short on the motherboard, the behavior you will likely see is the system shutting down randomly or freezing up randomly (the mouse will not move at all). It could also result in blue screen crashes.

Based on your first post, I suspect it was the iPod cord that caused all these issues and you should be fine. Let us know in a few days.

I've not gotten any of that since the new cord has been plugged in. So hopefully you are correct in saying it was the old cord that caused everything.

I will post back in a few days to let you know if everything is going well. Thanks for the help!

Just checking back to post that everything is working perfectly fine thus far and the issue was indeed the cord. The motherboard seems to be fine so far.

Thanks for all the help!

You are very welcome. I am glad it was something minor.

I am glad, too. I've already have too many issues with this laptop and just got it back from RMA the evening this started occuring. If it was yet another issue that required RMA, it would have been very frustrating.
