My computer freezes when I try to copy a file or play most games

I have a computer with windows 7 64 bit and 4gb of RAM. Two days ago for no apparent reason the computer locked up when I tried to drag a file to a usb stick. I could not use ctrl alt del and nothing but a reboot would unfreeze it. The same thing has happened every time I try to drag or copy a file to another location on the computer. Re-innstalling the system with an image backup has not fixed the problem.

The figures from Task Manager>Performance Tab>Resource Monitor>Memory could not be accessed becaudse I could not get into the Task Manager and had to reboot the computer. However, I did check on the figures after rebooting. They are:

    Hardware Reserved: 37 MB
    In Use: 1358 MB (fluctuating)
    Modified: 55 MB (fluctuating)
    Standby: 2365 MB (fluctuating)
    Free 279 MB (fluctuating).

I have since had problems when trying to access games I have downloaded a while ago and until now have worked fine. As soon as I click on the game icon the computer freezes and I get a blue screen, I cannot access the Task Manager and I have to reboot. I tried three different games and the same thing happened. At best I might get to the first or second startup screen of the game then it either freezes.

I went to the Spiceworks site and read what was mentioned there about bitlocker, but, from what I can understand, this applies to Vista not W7. I could not find any reference to an application to Windows 7. Last night I tried to access a few different games and I either got a blue screen following the freeze or the computer just froze and I could not move or access anything to unfreeze it. After rebooting I tried a mah-jongg game and I was able to get into that and play it without incident. Very strange.

A few days ago I checked to see if there were any updates for drivers, using SlimDrivers Free. It didn't identify any, but I also checked for any graphic driver, via Nvidia control panel and found there was a new one, including 3D, so downloaded and installed it. Do you think that would be causing the problem?

I have since tried restoring the system, etc. I found Restore Point off (I don't recall turning it off). After I reactivated the utility I managed to find one image to restore (26-03-12) on a removable HDD, so I restored it, but that made no difference. After the computer froze again I rebooted into safe mode, accessed Event Viewer and copied the following log info:

The above is all gobbledygook to me, but hopefully someone will be able to interpret it and let me know what it means and what I have to do to fix the problem. I am a novice when it comes to trying to fix things like this problem I have. Any help to resolve this annoying problem would be appreciated.

Thanks for your quick response. As I think I mentioned in my post, I have tried System Restore (back to 26-03-12) but this didn't fix the problem.

    OK, missed that.

    Try repair Install.
