Not Reading HDs after power surge/loss

    Greetings,

Sometime during the day while I was @ work here was either a power surge or loss of power to my home yesterday. I think it was a loss of power. Now my computer is not able to start Windows. When I do the initial boot up it looks as though it is not finding my hard drives. I tired running the startup repair and I also tried restring to a previsous restore point. No luck so far. Any suggestions?

    Thanks. :)

    Try clearing the CMOS.

Thanks James. I tried it, but it did not work. Any other suggestions? I'm open to anything.

Are you able to test the HDDs on another PC?

I'm not. However, I was talking to Ted (my Brother - Barefoot Kid), and he was walking me through some different things. We figured out my 2nd HD is no reading. I've go Windows up now. Gonna do a complete backup and then unplug that 2nd HD and see what's up.

James, I REALLY appreciate you sticking with me! I've been working some long hours (just finished day 6 of a 7-day stretch!!!) and having to ck the thread using my wife's lappy.

Admins: I'd like to keep this thread open for a couple more days just in case I need to revisit. Hope that's ok.

    Hi WartHog,

If you boot from a Windows 7 installation DVD, and then at the Language screen hold SHIFT+F10 to enter a cmd window, can you try this command lines:

    diskpart <enter>
    list disk <enter>

    Is that disk listed?

    Regards,

It's listed, but does not show any size to it.

Mmm. Ok, can you try a :

    list volume <enter>

Does the output show any information under the titles Fs, Type, Size, Status?

Ouch. OK, I speak under correction, but my understanding is that if you do initialise it you lose the existing information on the disk.

Was this a Windows disk, data disk, or combination thereof? Do you want to try and recover data from it?
