The title says it all. I was flying through Arkham City when the computer restarted. The Windows Error reporting window came up and said I had a blue screen (but I never saw one; screen just went black and computer restarted). I've attached the system health reports and minidumps as requested. Thank you all in advance!
8 pf 13 (and especially the most recent) are related to the below.
STOP 0x116: VIDEO_TDR_ERROR troubleshooting"It's not a true crash, in the sense that the bluescreen was initiated only because the combination of video driver and video hardware was being unresponsive, and not because of any synchronous processing exception".
Since Vista, the "Timeout Detection and Recovery" (TDR) components of the OS video subsystem have been capable of doing some truly impressive things to try to recover from issues which would have caused earlier OSs like XP to crash.
As a last resort, the TDR subsystem sends the video driver a "please restart yourself now!" command and waits a few seconds.
If there's no response, the OS concludes that the video driver/hardware combo has truly collapsed in a heap, and it fires off that stop 0x116 BSOD.
If playing with video driver versions hasn't helped, make sure the box is not overheating.
Try removing a side panel and aiming a big mains fan straight at the motherboard and GPU.
Run it like that for a few hours or days - long enough to ascertain whether cooler temperatures make a difference.
If so, it might be as simple as dust buildup and subsequently inadequate cooling.
I would download cpu-z and gpu-z (both free) and keep an eye on the video temps
Thank you for your reply! I was relieved at first, then the same thing happened to me. This time, I was simply playing a .mp4 file in Windows Media Player, and the computer restarted again. I've attached the new minidumps and system health reports.
Please tell me this isn't a video card problem =/ It's a brand new card.
Most recent ones still are 116's.
One more thing of note is a driver Related to RTCore64.sys MSI Afterburner from Micro-Star Int'l Co. Ltd.
Yours is from 2005 and needs to be removed as it has known problems in win 7.
Thank you for your reply! I re-installed the video card drivers, and shortly thereafter, the screen turned off again, and the fan for the video card went extremely loud. I pushed the power button for my computer to turn it off and back on, and thus far it seems okay. I removed my old MSi afterburner and installed the one from your link. I'm a little worried about what might happen if I play games again..
Yes I did, and fan temperatures are usually in the low 40's. Today, for some reason, after I turned on my computer and was in the process of opening firefox when the screen went blank. The screen was still on, but nothing was showing on the screen. I powered the computer down, waited, and turned it back on. This time, I had just decided to take things slower, and opened windows for my external drives, and then the whole computer froze. I'm a little worried now. Do you have any suggestions for this? I've had the screen turn off problem before with the onboard graphics card and I posted in here:

I'm asking JaidynM for help again to see if it's a graphics card problem, but I'm not sure what the real problem is. Let me know if there's any information I can provide.
