There is nothing in the crashes themselves to indicate the BOINC software. However, given that you had the accelerated charging application installed for USB devices and you were running the software from a USB drive, you have to consider that as a possible reason for the crashes. It is possible it was not the BOINC causing it but the USB charging application. Might be worth looking into if being BOINC free continues to provide stability.
