New problem - Not getting a POST beep

    Hi again,

Fixed the old problem of the computer rebooting.. I just gave up and awaited a new CPU through the post.

Fitted the new CPU, now when I boot it up I'm not getting any POST beeps or display through monitor.

I've read topics around tinternet and everybody says it's mobo or CPU.

The mobo is less than a month old, and the CPU came two days ago.. I'm pretty confident that it is neither of them (if it turns out to be.. I won't be surprised though)

I've ran a basic boot with only mobo, CPU and HDD's attached.. same problem

Checked the pins on the processor and in the CPU slot, all seem pretty good. All wires that are supposed to be connected are connected so can't see a problem there.

I also disassembled and rebuilt the PC while it was completely unplugged on the floor, so don't think I shorted anything...

    Please somebody help

Have you tried running with only one RAM module inserted? What about with the HDDs removed? Do you have a CD/DVD drive connected as well? See if running with bare minimum allows you to at least see the screen and access the BIOS. Bare minimum would be CPU, PSU, and one RAM module. Try each RAM module, as well.

There is one other piece of hardware you did not mention that can cause this behavior: a bad PSU.

I've tried running basic with no drives also, and just tried with one RAM stick.
I don't have any spare PSU's that are compatible with my mobo so it's looking like a money job.

Would appreciate any other information or help

    Thanks

I think you are stuck with a money job if you have done what you say and have no spare parts to swap in as a test and have no tools to independently test the PSU or motherboard.

I assume you have tried all available ports where applicable and swapped out cables when possible?

    The bare minimum is:

    Motherboard
    PSU
Single RAM stick in various slots

Outside the case, with nothing in the slots.

I've been giving this some thought and realized you never told us what CPU you had and what CPU you replaced it with. Are they the same? If not, it could be that your BIOS version does not support the new CPU. Is your BIOS up to date?

I have ran it with bare minimums outside the case and no joy.

The old processor was an Intel P4 3.0Ghz and I've replaced it with an Intel Core 2 Quad 2.5Ghz

The mobo says it is compatible with all Core 2 processors including mine, and the mobo is also new.. I think the bios is 2009 or 2011.

Also, if I'm honest I've got no clue how I would be able to update the BIOS as I currently can't get a POST screen.
When I put the old CPU back in I experience the same problem..

I asked about the new CPU because sometimes a motherboard says it supports newer CPUs, but if you read the fine print, it also says it only supports the CPU after a certain BIOS version. The fact that you have the same problem with the old CPU indicates this is probably not due to the CPU upgrade but a different hardware fault... Given the troubles you have had prior to this, I would suspect the PSU or motherboard.

    Is the pc bootable?
i once had the same problem but it was due to missing motherboard speaker. I put it in and i got that sweeet beep tone.
