It means the WindowsImageBackup file should show up when you click on the external, and not be in any other folder in the external.

I am attaching two screenshots. One of them is my external hard drive where the image is stored and the other one is in system repair where i am getting an error.

Whichever backup you want to restore from, you need to rename the backup directory to WindowsImageBackup. See Backup Complete Computer - Create an Image Backup

NOTE:
  • If you renamed the WindowsImageBackup folder, then you must rename this renamed folder back to WindowsImageBackup in order to be able to restore the image.
  • If you moved the renamed WindowsImageBackup folder, then in addition to the above, you will also need to rename any other WindowsImageBackup folder at the original location before moving it back to the original location,.

Thanks. Now my external hard drive is acting up. Everytime I try to open it from my computer, windows explorer stops responding. I had the same issue a couple of months ago but after defrag and error check, everything was fine. Error check takes a whole load of time. I will get back to this tomorrow. This is my last option. Otherwise, I will send the memory for RMA and reboot the comuter.

Run Disk Check on the External with both boxes selected.

if it won't run, install free Partition Wizard and run Check File System on the external which sometimes works better and can revive an external HD.

Then just remove the number from the backup you want to be detected while it is being used to reimage your HD.

So I scanned the whole hard drive and no issues were found. The System recovery options still does not detect that I have a external hard drive which contains the system image (

Edit: I tried it in all my USB ports but still it wasnt working.

May be the way the file name is typed. Can only be WindowsImageBackup

Yeah I renamed it to WindowsImageBackup

No luck there at all.

P.S Just waiting to replace my RAM now so I can reinstall Windows again.

See if you can mount the image as a VHD file in Disk Management then reimage it from there. Seems I recall this being done awhile back successfully when it wasn't detected.

Virtual Hard Disk - Create and Attach VHD

It may want to include the extant Win7 installation however so you may need to use Macrium to capture just the mounted image: Macrium - Image your system

The premium Acronis cloning/imaging app which comes free with any WD or Seagate HD in the mix is even better.
