BSOD from youtube videos occasionally, Error 0x00000116
Hello fellow users, this post may be long winded, and I appreciate any and all help.
Just two days ago I was browsing the internet. I began watching a video on
youtube, and decided to play a flash game in a new tab. Now, due to me being
easily distracted, I paused the video and was paying attention to my other tab the
most. After about 30 minutes, I closed the tab I was playing in, and unpaused the
video. When I did this, my screen went black, and flickered back on (I've had this
happen on a previous pc before, no damage was received.). When my display came
back, I tried playing the video again. When I did this, my screen went black, came
back on, and went black again. I then got a BSOD with the explanation of "attempt
to reset the display driver and recover from timeout failed", with the file atikmpag.sys being the culprit. Now, I have windows
configured to auto reboot after the memory dump is done; but it didn't auto reboot.
After the dump was complete, I held the power button down, and turned the pc off.
When I turned it back on, it said that windows failed to start, and required startup
repair. Well, I did this, and it did a system restore. It booted up after that. Now,
there were still a few glitches, but I'll list them in a little bit. I did the EXACT same
thing the next night (Pausing a youtube video, running flash app in different tab, un
pausing earlier video resulting in a blue screen.), but there was no system repair
required this time. I knew this had to do with my graphics drivers, so I updated
them. I haven't had another BSOD yet, but there is just two glitches that worry
me. NOTE: THESE ARE ALL GLITCHES THAT HAPPENED BEFORE THE DRIVER
UPDATE.
1. Firefox would crash when I tried to open it. (I fixed this by doing some stuff in firefox's "safe mode")
2. Most games won't even run now. They'll either crash, have their own custom error window pop up, or just never do anything.
I have managed to attach PART of the files that were told to be attached on the blue screen reporting tutorial thread. This is because I'd have an error when trying to get one of the files. I also have a picture of the blue screen, and will provide it on request.
Short version: Computer crashed due to atikmpg.sys, most games won't load now.
So I guess I'm asking this: What happened? Is there still something wrong? Should installing the new display drivers help? Why won't most of my games work now?
