BSOD trying to play Tribes ASCEND

It happens to most games i play that makes my fan really loud. When that happens my laptop seems to heat up a bit and i get either Black or White screen. Then i have to force shut down my computer with the power button. I can't seem to get the system health report to work, I get "Error: An error occured while attempting to generate the report. The interface is unknown"

    No DMP's included
    Please try this way...

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

    If you are overclocking STOP.

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

    The procedure:
    * Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
    * Zip up the copy.
    * Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

    To ensure minidumps are enabled:

    * Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
    * Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
    * Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
    * Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
    * Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
    * OK your way out.
    * Reboot if changes have been made.

My minidump folder has a image of folder with a yellow lock on it and inside is empty.

Edit: I found a livekernalreport folder and it has crash dump files. Not sure if it's what your looking for tho

All three are related to your video driver/subsystem but we cant begin to investigate until you upload these drivers which include a 4 year old video driver.

    Old driver

    Code:
    SFEP.sys 8/3/2007 1:35:53 AM

    yk62x64.sys 2/23/2009 11:02:27 AM
    btwl2cap.sys 4/3/2009 8:28:45 PM

    atikmdag.sys 7/10/2009 12:34:38 PM
    How To Find Drivers:
    - search Google for the name of the driver
    - compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
    - visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
    - if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.
    - - The most common drivers are listed on this page: Driver Reference Driver Reference
    Driver Reference Table (DRT)

    Thank you that worked.
You have a bit of work ahead.... see above post.

Your crashes were caused by stop 0x116 / 117 BSOD.

"It's not a true crash, in the sense that the bluescreen was initiated only because the combination of video driver and video hardware was being unresponsive, and not because of any synchronous processing exception".

Since Vista, the "Timeout Detection and Recovery" (TDR) components of the OS video subsystem have been capable of doing some truly impressive things to try to recover from issues which would have caused earlier OSs like XP to crash.

As a last resort, the TDR subsystem sends the video driver a "please restart yourself now!" command and waits a few seconds.

If there's no response, the OS concludes that the video driver/hardware combo has truly collapsed in a heap, and it fires off that stop 0x116 BSOD.

If playing with video driver versions hasn't helped, make sure the box is not overheating.

Try removing a side panel and aiming a big mains fan straight at the motherboard and GPU.

Run it like that for a few hours or days - long enough to ascertain whether cooler temperatures make a difference.

If so, it might be as simple as dust buildup and subsequently inadequate cooling.

I would download cpu-z and gpu-z (both free) and keep an eye on the video temps

Well, i think that there are dust building around the fan, but i'm not so safe taking apart my laptop to clean them. I have "Blow off Duster" but im not sure how to properly use it to clean dust out from the fan's vent. the Straw from the duster cant fit the little holes that my fan's vent has, so i just tried using the duster outside the vent holes. Didn't seem to have any changes though.
