    PS I don’t know if this matters but

    I also tried to open up Photoshop by “Run As Administrator” There was no blue screen crash. The PC just went black. Didn’t shut down or restart. Just went black.
    I had to use the old unplug and replug to restart. No error log appeared.
    Is there a way to remove Photoshop by deleting the program files. (last resort) I don’t care if I lose my preferences.

    Apologies for not getting back yesterday, the DW gets off work at 9:30pm, and I usually try to have a lite late supper ready for her.
    Everything ran together, and by the time I noticed it was already midnight here, Eastern Daylight Zone. I see by your Profile Page your in the Mid-West or Central time zone?

    Break the rest of my reply down into steps, that way it won't seem as overwhelming.

    My screens looked a bit different that the one you described.

    (Tried to show you a print screen of my PC but without Photoshop I can only paste it into a Word File.)
    To get to the snip I provided all you had to do is right click on the ALMService, then click on properties.

    Next time you want to post a screen shot try this: How to Use the Snipping Tool in Vista and Windows 7
    You can also find it in the Start area under All Programs >Accessories, right click on it, and pin it to your Taskbar. That way it is always handy.

    But I changed it to automatic and hit “apply”

    Result Photoshop still crashed. And when I restarted.
    The Mircosoft function you mentioned is “Checked” “NOT blue.” Underneath it are two subfolders “Windows Communications Foundation HTTP Activation” and “Windows Communications Foundation non HTTP Activation.” Both are checked.
    When only one is checked, it turns to “blue” what should I do here?
    From your screenshot the ALMService is set properly.

    Uncheck the two sub-Folders, and OK your way out, that should leave the .Net Frame3.5.1, blue. If not just check the box next to it that should blue it up.

    Then run: SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker, and run it 3 times with restarts after each.

    Then you could try: Photoshop Help | Install/uninstall Photoshop CS2 again.

    If it still doesn't work then here's the uninstall procedures.

    How to Uninstall Adobe Photoshop | Instant-Uninstall.com
    Before you start on the registry part make sure you backup your registry! Registry - Backup and Restore
    Be very careful to match the Keys listed to the Keys you see in the Registry Editor.

    Use this: How to Find Text in the Vista and Windows 7 Registry Editor - Regedit, to help you open the Registry editor, and use the Find, Find next tool.
    Just copy/paste the Key from the Instant-Uninstall link into the search box, i.e. from the first one: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Features\4C7BB6329144DF244090E152A7523ED4

    Found this: Windows 7 is not compatible with Adobe Photoshop CS2 - Microsoft Answers
    It can be installed, but you need to follow a different set of installation procedures.

    ~~~ ~~~~ ~~~
    We still need your System Specs, But since your having problems installing the tutorial program Please list them here, we need:
    • System Manufacturer/Model Number
    • Operating System
    • CPU
    • Motherboard
    • Memory
    • Graphics Card(s)
    • Sound Card
    • Monitor(s) Displays
    • Screen Resolution
    • Hard Drives
    • PSU PowerSupplyUnit
    • Case
    • Cooling
    • Keyboard
    • Mouse
    • Internet Speed
    • Other Info, and this is important, what do you use for anti-malware protection
    See if any of these system info tools will install:
    Belarc
    Speccy - System Information - Free Download
    SIW | System Information for Windows by Gabriel Topala
    If you try the last one, SIW, don't install any of the bundled tools see: SIW | InstallMonetizer
    If they won't, get the make/model of your machine, find it on the web, and leave a link, but we still need to know about any anti-malware programs you use.
    ~~~ ~~~~ ~~~

    Do you have any recovery/repair disks that you received when you purchased your machine?

    And finally, whew!I will be in an out today, but I will try check back now an then for any replies.

    Dear Anak

    I won’t be back home till about 6:00 or 7:00pm East Coast time. Will you be available to answer questions? I’m sure I’ll have plenty.

    Just to clarify our plan,

    -Change the Windows setting to blue?

    -Then Run SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker thrice?

    -Attempt to remove Photoshop?

    -If that fails back up my registry before next step. I’m SURE I’m gonna need your help on this EVERY step of the way.

    -Adobe’s instructions are a flop as they all involve uninstalling and repairing which we already know doesn’t work.

    -How to Uninstall Adobe Photoshop | Instant-Uninstall.com seems to be advising to delete all traces of Photoshop? Hence the need to back up registry files.

    -I also attempt to upload my system specs. (Sure I’ll need help there.)

    -Regarding malware scans, YES I did run several malware scans before the crashes started. I’ve run these scans for years without problems. I also checked to logs I saved and none of them mention Adobe in any way.

    This whole situation has been very very stressful for me as I’m not able to get my work projects done. So please please bear with me.

    Anak, will you or anyone else be standing by tonight about 7:00 EST to help walk me through this. I’m sure I’ll have question after question?

    I'll be around tonight some. You may get a slow response from time to time. My internet has been rather flaky the past two weeks, but don't worry, "Technicians are aware of the issue and are working toward resolution..."

    In anticipation of some questions, you will need to skip Task 1 in How to Uninstall Adobe Photoshop | Instant-Uninstall.com and go straight to task 2. I would recommend creating a restore point prior to task 3 and backing up the registry as suggested by Anak.

    You may even want to create a restore point prior to task 2 just to be safe.

    OK, I'm hanging in there but I'm still just as confused as I was from my afternoon post. What is the game plan?

    The instructions seem to be going off in all directions. I can't tell what we're doing and why.
    What is are game plan?
    I'd suggest:
    A: Detect cause of crash.

    B: Repair cause of crash.
    C: If crash cause cannot be detected or repaired, uninstall Photoshop. (a last resort since I know reinstalling into Windows 7 will be a pain and the same crash problem my occur all over again.)

    Which of these three stages are we at?

    Is the original dump file still being analyzed by anyone?

    I've been working since 7:00pm and I've switched the Microsoft function to blue by un checking “Windows Communications Foundation HTTP Activation”

    -Next I created a restore point. Is this the same as backing up my Photoshop registry files?

    -Next I ran sfc/ scannow in command prompt and restarted 3 times. The first scan found one error it marked as "repaired." I've attached the log. The next 2 scans found nothing.

    -Do you want the anti malware logs I ran earlier?

    -Next I will try and upload my system specs.

    Thanks writhziden for watchin', I wrenched my back out in the yard, and my Sciatica is givin' me trouble.
    I'm movin', but slow....

    Okay,

    A: The cause of crash are problems with CLASSPNP.SYS, and the ALMService.

    B: We can't repair because we can't uninstall CS2.

    C: This is where we are, manually uninstall CS2.

    I have the .dmp file on my desktop, and have been analyzing.

    Okay on the Microsoft function to blue.

    Creating the restore point backs up the entire registry, not just the CS2 keys.

    Okay on the sfc /scannow.

    Don't need the anti-malware logs, just the name of the program. i.e. MSE, Avira, avast, Kaspersky, Norton....

    Okay on the System Specs.

    At this point I would think the next thing to do would be to manually uninstall CS2.

    Let me know how you would like to proceed.

    Anak, thanks for the fast response. I usually write in Word but that's at a craw for the first time! So please excuse my poor typing.

    -Since the only option remains, uninstall Photoshop I have a few questions.

    -I'm not sure if I still have the orginal product code! It's not on the disk. I think it's written down on my PC somewhere? Is there a way to look up this information in the files?

    -Would a reinstallation solve the problem or would the newly installed photoshop just crash again?

    -The manual uninstall seems to involve deleting the program files. Will this cause problems with other things on my PC? Or is this why we created the restore point?

    -I did find system specs. I'll attach them. I do see a code by Photoshop, is that what I need?

    -After the last blue screen crash I checked for the dump file. My PC also mentioned aother file "WER" (I'm attaching) it was under user/ app data. I noticed ALL files in this folder had been modified as of just now! Accept one from December 2009 when photoshop was first installed on this computer. Don't know if it helps but I'll attach all files.

    As for the anti malware they were, Super Anti Spyware, Hijack This, DDS, GEMR, RKill, and Combo Fix.
    As I said I never had any trouble with these before.

    It is there in one of the files, but when you open it, it will look like machine code.
    The best way is with one of those system info tools, have you tried to install any of them?

    -Would a reinstallation solve the problem or would the newly installed photoshop just crash again?
    If we are successful in removing CS2 we need to see if your machine is stable with it gone.
    They explain how to install CS2 in that one MS Answers link.
    How soon did you expect to re-install CS2?

    -The manual uninstall seems to involve deleting the program files. Will this cause problems with other things on my PC? Or is this why we created the restore point?
    It shouldn't. Yes that is why the restore point is created.

    -I did find system specs. I'll attach them. I do see a code by Photoshop, is that what I need?
    Yes. scratch what i said earlier.

    Attaching the files helps, but there is some sensitive info on them, I have them, you delete them.

    The Anti-malware programs you listed are for checking/removing malware.
    Don't you have a program running on its own like Microsoft Security Essentials?
    Even Belarc can't find one. Virus Protection Unknown

    My plan is tonight at 7:00pm EST to attempt to manually uninstall Photoshop. I’m reading their directions in great detail but I’m sure I will have many questions along the way. Will you or anyone else be standing by tonight at 7:00 EST to assist?

    I will be writing from my laptop so we won’t get knocked offline.

    Anak “How soon did you expect to re-install CS2?”

    I have two MAJOR real estate photo project to work on ASAP so I’d like to attempt reinstall ASAP. ( and I was just handed a third as I was writing this.
    After the uninstall do we need to do a system check or anything before we attempt to reinstall? It seems so so please stand by tonight.

    Anak I'm not sure if I still have the orginal product code! It's not on the disk. I think it's written down on my PC somewhere? Is there a way to look up this information in the files?

    These phrases were crossed out but my question still remains. Is there any info we need to pull from the current version of Photoshop while it’s still installed? I just want to make sure we’ve got all our ducks in a row.
