Several BSODs - 9f (seems to occur around standby mode), e6

Okay, I'm having a bit of an issue and it's really bothering me. In the 3, then 3 more days when I added more services, they seemed to give me no problems in the few days I gave each. But it seemed one of them was a problem, because I had a BSOD right after adding them the first time as the full group. The problem is that - not knowing what exactly to do - I kept the previous group enabled at the same time, so it may have actually been one in the first half of services that was the problem because my BSODs sometimes occur daily, or every other day, but sometimes it's only once or twice a month. So I never know how long to wait until I know a group of services is not the problem. And because of earlier stupidity, I may need to start this from almost scratch - and it may take a very, very long time.

Thank you. I just hate the thought that I may end up having it on for a month. I just went and basically started from scratch again - though I know I got a BSOD with 3/4 services enabled, so it wasn't entirely from scratch. I only have half of the 3/4 enabled now - and will probably not deem that group fine until 2-4 weeks have passed. It sucks, but I feel I can't be sure otherwise. Though, hopefully I get a BSOD before then, so I can narrow them down some more. (Now I'm wishing for a BSOD, lol...) I just hope this thread won't be locked if it takes so long to find anything out.

Also, I have a hunch that Bonjour/iPod service could be behind it. I've done research and it seems they cause some people BSODs. Any thoughts on that? :)

Bonjour can cause issues with the system. If you suspect it is a culprit: Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7 may help. Make sure to remove Apple software in the order given in that link or it may cause other conflicts later.

Awesome! I only have the three Apple servies (Apple Mobile Device, Bonjour, iPod service) enabled due to my hunch, and it just BSODed. So I believe I have the culprit! It seems that only when I had all three enabled it caused problems, but not when grouped separately. I do get several errors in Event Viewer from Bonjour, so would just reinstalling iTunes, etc. really help? I just want to confirm it with you before I do anything. :)

EDIT: Nope, even with the services disabled I'm getting BSODs every time I try to patch The Sims 3.

I have had the Bonjour errors myself, and re-installing fixed it. I have also helped others on here who had the same problems and resolved them by re-installing iTunes. As I said, make sure to remove the programs in the order specified by Apple to avoid further conflicts.

Okay, I'll do that. The BSODs occur every time I try to patch The Sims 3, even when, just now, I had said services disabled.

EDIT: Patching worked fine just now, second boot after changing the startup services. Is it possible that hitting 'OK', and not 'Apply', after making changes messes things up somehow? The services are definitely disabled now.

I'll reinstall iTunes, etc. tomorrow and report back if I still get BSODs after that, or in several days when I can assume the problem's solved. :)

You have to restart the system after applying or okaying out of the msconfig service changes. Did you restart after doing the OK step?

Yes, I had. Then after the BSOD, of course I rebooted and my game was able to patch.

Okay, I followed the support guide to uninstall/re-install iTunes, but am still getting BSODs. I thought I'd mention that (I only have 6 services set on start-up - still working on those) today when I turned my computer on, the screen went blank for maybe thirty seconds before the welcome screen finally popped up. In those thirty or so seconds, the power button on my monitor was yellow (which means there's nothing to display - it's blue normally). Last time I shut down, it also took forever to do so, stuck on the 'Shutting Down' screen. I had to do a hard shut down, as it was starting to storm badly.

Things seems to be generally slower as well. I notice that especially in games.
