Windows 7: BSODs, DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE, involving ntoskrnl.exe

Hello everybody!

So I built this system about a year and a half ago and I've had problems from day 1. But recently my SSD broke down and I had to install windows on my HDD. I thought this would fix the problems but it hasn't. I've tried all the things a moderately computer savvy person can do. So now I'm turning to you for help! I've attached my files.

One problem worth mentioning is that the connection between the graphics card and monitor will give out every so often. I've fixed the problem by unplugging the cord that runs between them for a few minutes and then plugging it back in. If I plug in a new cord that will also fix the problem. Other than that issue, I'd just like to fix the BSsOD.

Running the last 10 memory dumps.....

MSINFO32 shows issues with:
SAlpham64 - SteelSeries Engine HID Driver. Please uninstall that program, download a fresh copy and install it (if needed) - otherwise just uninstall it and see if that helps
EtronXHCI - your USB 3.0 drivers. Please uninstall them, download a fresh copy and then install it.

Gigabyte EasyTune6 (ET6) and Gigabyte EasySaver is known to cause BSOD's on Windows 7 systems. Please uninstall it. The drivers for these programs date from 2009, so it's best to get rid of them.

MSI Afterburner (along with Riva Tuner and EVGA Precision) are known to cause BSOD's on Windows 7 systems. Please uninstall it.

If overclocking, please stop while we're troubleshooting. Feel free to resume the overclock once the system is stable again.

Check inside the case to see if there's any issues with the cooling of the graphics card (dirt/dust/power plugs/fan not spinning/etc). Try another cable. Try another monitor. All of these will help to rule out problem components so you can identify the actual problem.

This is most likely a hardware error. They (hardware errors) are usually caused by one of these things:
- borked (broken) hardware (several different procedures used to isolate the problem device)
- overclocking - You'll know if you're overclocking or not. If uncertain we can suggest things to check.
- compatibility issues
- low-level driver problems
- or even malware (scanned for when we ask for hardware diagnostics from Initial Hardware Diagnostics or Hardware Diagnostics ).

The most common issue in the memory dumps is USB problems - so I'd start by suspecting the USB 3.0 drivers. Please replace them immediately.

Applecharger.sys has recently been implicated in BSOD's on Windows 7 systems. Please uninstall it to see if it's the problem.

Hi Usasma,

Thank you for your detailed response. Here is what I've done:

1) Uninstalled Gigabyte EasyTune6 (ET6) and MSI Afterburner. I couldn't find Gigabyte EasySaver (this might've uninstalled with EasyTune6), Applecharger.sys, Riva Tuner, or EVGA Precision. Let me know if I'm missing something.

2) Tried to uninstall SteelEngine Driver but the uninstall crashed my computer halfway through. I started back up in safe mode and tried to uninstall but the uninstall stopped halfway and wouldn't continue, but did not crash my computer. Pls advise.

3) Reinstalled my USB 3.0 Drivers successfully

I'm not sure if I'm overclocking. I haven't actively overclocked anything but my video card was advertised as overclocked out of the box.

One problem I neglected to mention in my first post is that I can't shut down my computer without it stalling at the "Shutting Down" screen.

If I resolve the above without being able to fix these problems I will move on to hardware diagnostics.

Again, any and all help is appreciated.

Hi Usasma,

Is there anything I can do about the fact that my computer can't shut down without stalling out? (Forcing me to hold the power button until it shuts off).

Also, as I said, the SteelEngine driver wouldn't uninstall. Is there a way I can get the uninstall to work?

Here's the "Safe" way to get rid of the SteelEngine drivers:

- Create a System Repair Disc. Go to Start...All Programs...Maintenance...Create a System Repair Disc
- Test the disc to make sure it works (that you can access System Restore - as that's why you're making it)
- Create a System Restore point

Use Autoruns (you should've downloaded it to run the jcgriff2 reports) to locate entries for:
SteelBus64.sys
SAlpham64.sys

Remove the checkmarks in the leftmost column to disable these entries from loading.

Then navigate to C:\Windows\System32\drivers and rename each of the above drivers from .sys to .BAD
If they're not located there, search your system for them - and post back with the locations.

Reboot and see if the system starts properly.
If not, use the System Repair Disc to restore the system using the System Restore point that you set earlier.
