Windows 7 has crashed and burned with black screen and blinking cursor

After several bouts with BSOD, I've finally come to a dead end with Windows 7 on my HP Pavilion p6510f:

Now I get the black screen and blinking cursor. The F8 key doesn't even work. I was able to run some thorough diagnosis and determine that the memory and hard drive are fine. I suspect Windows 7 has got corrupted.

I'm resigned to the idea of re-installing Windows 7 and starting from scratch, but that's a pain. Is there any way to fix the boot sector through the command prompt or another back door way to repair Windows?

    Thanks,

    D

Read through the steps for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Boot and see if there are steps you have not yet tried. Some of those steps do include repairing the Master Boot Record (MBR).

I was able to create a Windows 7 boot disk and restore the boot sector. Thanks!! I'll deal with the BSOD issues on a new thread.

Sounds good. Glad you are at least able to get back to Windows. Nice work!
