Computer runs really slow in normal mode, but runs fine in safe mode

I recently re-formatted my Sony VAIO since it was starting to run super slow. Now that I re-installed Windows 7 on it through recovery disks, it worked fined for about a day but then the problem came back. The computer is slow at bootup and runs super slow while freezing so many times. I am running it on safe mode right now and its working fine.

I ran hardware diagnostics and everything is fine (Memory, Hard Disk etc.)

I installed Norton Antivirus and Windows Live Messenger after the re-install.

    Please help me.

What software did you use to test the hard drive and memory?

Are you willing or unwilling to do a clean install of Windows as opposed to a reinstallation through recovery disks?

How many items do you show checked in the startup tab of msconfig?

How many processes are running as shown in Task Manager?

    1. I used VAIO's default hardware diagnostics tools. VAIO Care
    2. Sony did not send a installation CD of Windows 7, instead it asked me to create a recovery disk through the computer so there is no option for clean install.

I am not sure how to provide the answer to the last 2 questions. Are you asking about these things while in safe mode or while in normal mode?

The better tools would be memtest86+ for memory and the hard drive manufacturer's utilities for the hard drive. But there is no obvious reason to believe these are the problem.

You can download a Windows 7 ISO from mydigitallife.info, burn it to a disk, and do a clean install from that disc. That would give you Windows alone, without whatever extra added stuff Sony may have supplied.

    Either.

Running fine in safe mode can mean driver problems. Do you show any errors in Device Manager?

Does the problem persist if Norton and Live Messenger are NOT installed?

    Either.

In safe mode the following items are checked in the startup tab of msconfig:

    Intel (R) Common User Interface
    Intel (R) Common User Interface
    Intel (R) Common User Interface
    Realtek HD Audio Manager
    Alps Pointing-device Driver
    Intel (R) PROSet/Wireless
    Windows Live Messenger
    Google Update
    Microsoft Windows Operating System
    IAStorIcon
    Adobe Acrobat
Java (TM) Platform SE Auto Updater 2 0
    SmartWi Helper
    VAIOSurvey
    ISB Utility
    PMB
    Bluetooth Software

The following processes are running in task manager in safe mode:

    chrome.exe *32
    chrome.exe *32
    chrome.exe *32
    chrome.exe *32
    chrome.exe *32
    chrome.exe *32
    chrome.exe *32
    chrome.exe *32
    chrome.exe *32
    chrome.exe *32
    chrome.exe *32
    crss.exe
    ctfmon.exe
    explorer.exe
    msconfig.exe
    rundll32.exe *32
    taskmgr.exe
    winlogon.exe

I think the 11 Chrome processes are just for the different tabs.

If you need anything else, please ask and I will tell it right away.

I am waiting for your reply.

What do you mean by "show any errors in Device Manager?" Is there a place it would show error? I am able to open device manager perfectly fine. I uninstalled Norton but the problem was still there. I have not tried to uninstall Live Messenger. Will do that now and reply in a minute if it stops the problem.
