    BSOD on a new Hard Drive, fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate x64


    Hello everyone,

    I've just installed a new hard drive and a fresh copy of Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on it, and I just received two BSODs within minutes of each other, citing ntoskrnl.exe with SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION on BlueScreenView. I had periodical blue screens before my last HDD died so it's most likely something else causing it, maybe hardware... but not sure how to tell what. I've attached the necessary files.

    Is Windows 7 . . .
    - x64
    - the original installed OS on the system? Yes
    - Full retail version

    - What is the age of system (hardware)? About 5 years
    - What is the age of OS installation (have you re-installed the OS?) Two days

    Older versions of ASACPI.SYS are a known BSOD problem on Windows 7. Update the driver by:
    1. Going to the Asus motherboard support site
      When you reach the website:
    2. Scroll down the page and click Utilities
    3. Hold Ctrl and press f (ctrl+f) to enter the browser's find feature
    4. Search for "ATK0110 driver for WindowsXP/Vista/Win7 32&64-bit" (without quotes)
    5. Download and install the driver.
    6. After installation is complete, verify that it installed correctly.
      • Click Start Menu
      • Click My Computer
      • Go to C:\WIndows\System32\drivers\
      • Verify that the ASACPI.SYS file is dated 2009 or newer (2010,etc.)

    Got another Blue Screen while playing Heroes of Newerth


    Well, just got another blue screen while playing a video game. I think it may have been the video drivers crashing, because the image froze and then blue screened while the audio skipped. I was playing Heroes of Newerth at the time, and it looks like the Blue Screen View cites ntoskrnl and ndis.sys. Any ideas about this one? Attached are the new files. I ran the Perfmon while Heroes of Newerth was still running just in case, so that's why it says the memory is low.

    I also updated my Specs for you to peruse. Thanks!

    Due to the age of your system, make sure it is compatible with Windows 7: Windows 7 Compatibility: Software Programs & Hardware Devices: Find Updates, Drivers, & Downloads -> Download and run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor.


    Analysis:
    Your most recent crash blames Lycosa.sys which is your Razer Tarantula Keyboard Driver. Make sure the driver is up to date. If it is already up to date, re-install it. You will find it in Device Manager under Human Interface Devices or under Keyboards.

    To fully re-install a driver, use the following steps.
    1. First, download the latest driver. Then do the next steps.
    2. Click Start Menu
    3. Right Click My Computer/Computer
    4. Click Manage
    5. Click Device Manager from the list on the left
    6. Find the device you are trying to uninstall by expanding the appropriate set of devices
    7. Right click the device
    8. Click Uninstall (do not click OK in the dialog box that pops up after hitting Uninstall)
    9. Put a tick in Delete driver software for this device (if this option is available, otherwise just hit OK) and hit OK
    10. Restart your computer only if Windows asks you to.
    11. Install the latest driver for the device.


    Alternatively:
    1. Login as an adminstrative user.
    2. First, download the latest driver. Then do the next steps.
    3. Click Start Menu
    4. Click Control Panel
    5. Click Hardware and Sound
    6. Click Device Manager (the last link under Devices and Printers)
    7. Find the device you are trying to uninstall by expanding the appropriate set of devices
    8. Right click the device
    9. Click Uninstall (do not click OK in the dialog box that pops up after hitting Uninstall)
    10. Put a tick in Delete driver software for this device (if this option is available, otherwise just hit OK) and hit OK
    11. Restart your computer only if Windows asks you to.
    12. Install the latest driver for the device.
