    BSOD Bugcheckcode 196

    Hello,

    I keep having intermittent BSOD failures, these sometimes occur with no logged in users (logon screen).

    Any assistance greatly appreciated.

    Hello ShaunL and welcome to Sevenforums.

    Let me start off by a tough question, do you have Driver Verifier enabled?

    Bugcheck Analysis
    Code:
    *******************************************************************************
    *                                                                             *
    *                        Bugcheck Analysis                                    *
    *                                                                             *
    *******************************************************************************

    DRIVER_VERIFIER_DETECTED_VIOLATION (c4)
    A device driver attempting to corrupt the system has been caught. This is
    because the driver was specified in the registry as being suspect (by the
    administrator) and the kernel has enabled substantial checking of this driver.
    If the driver attempts to corrupt the system, bugchecks 0xC4, 0xC1 and 0xA will
    be among the most commonly seen crashes.
    Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable

    It doesn't usually means you have it enabled, but it's worth a look for sure.

    Best Regards,
    Frederik

    Driver verifier is enabled, isn't that a good thing?

    I can disable it and I might no longer get BSOD , but I will still have some underlying issue, correct?

    Thanks for the reply.

    You should disable it. There's a good chance that you'd have BSOD on any computer, even though there is nothing wrong with it.
