One Random BSOD While Surfing 'Net

Hello,

Quick lowdown:

Fresh install of Windows 7 64 on my PC almost exactly 1 week ago.

It loaded w/ a i5 2500k processor, Asus P8V68-Pro mb, 4x8gb G.Skill DDR3 1600 ram, and 2 120G Sandisk Extreme SSDs in Raid 0. I did the re-install of a Windows 7 upgrade disc I purchased.

1 stick of the g.skill ram was an RMA so I'm thinking it might be that. I didn't run memtest86+ when I got the new stick so that's a possibility.

BSOD occurred when my gf was surfing on Firefox. It was very random, 1st BSOD since the new install. Since I didn't see it in person I didn't catch the error code.

Thanks for any help guys!

Hello Don and welcome to Sevenforums!

BSOD Report

Let's start off by looking at the rough edges your dump includes. Your dump included a bad Graphic Direct-X sector. Normally it doesn't mean that Direct-X is corrupted, but Windows files are.

lmvm dx
Code:
1: kd> lmvm dxgmms1
start end module name
fffff880`04b68000 fffff880`04bae000 dxgmms1 (pdb symbols) c:\symbols\dxgmms1.pdb\0901C357E9E846EE8C2FBCC8107163201\dxgmms1.pdb
    Loaded symbol image file: dxgmms1.sys
    Mapped memory image file: c:\symbols\dxgmms1.sys\4CE799C146000\dxgmms1.sys
    Image path: \SystemRoot\System32\drivers\dxgmms1.sys
    Image name: dxgmms1.sys
    Timestamp: Sat Nov 20 10:49:53 2010 (4CE799C1)
Code:
DxDiag Notes
------------
Display Tab 1: No problems found.
Sound Tab 1: No problems found.
Sound Tab 2: No problems found.
          Input Tab: No problems found.
As you can see, DX-diag doesn't usually report errors. Though, it's very important that you'll get your files updated.

Download: DirectX End-User Runtime - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details

DX-files tents to change at times, and won't work properly.

SFC /scannow

We usually ask people to do this command to check if Windows is corrupted. It's the most common used one to check if the Windows files are corrupted. If it'll find errors, it'll restore them.
Tip   Tip
If you're having a custom customization layer on your Aero, it's likely to get restored to default.

Press Start | search 'cmd' | Right-click it
| open as Admin | type SFC /SCANNOW

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

That'll be all for now!

Best Regards,
Frederik.

Upload any new incoming BSOD dump if you experience one.

Hi -

Your D-Link DWA-556 Xtreme N PCIe Desktop Adapter driver needs to be updated -
Code:
athrx.sys Mon Oct 05 12:33:57 2009 (4ACA1FF5)
Atheros wrote the driver - http://sysnative.com/drivers/driver.php?id=athrx.sys

I don't see an update at D-Link - ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Wireless/dwa556/Drivers/

Regards. . .
