BSOD after plugging in HDMI

It looks like you have both McAfee and Norton drivers loading on your system (McAfee may not have been completely uninstalled). They don't play well together. Please uninstall them this way (only install one free antivirus):

Anti-Virus Removal:
Please do the following:
- download a free antivirus for testing purposes: Free AntiVirus
- uninstall the Norton from your system (you can reinstall it, if so desired, when we're done troubleshooting)
- remove any remnants of Norton using this free tool: http://us.norton.com/support/kb/web_...080710133834EN

- uninstall the McAfee from your system (you can reinstall it, if so desired, when we're done troubleshooting)
- remove any remnants of McAfee using this free tool: http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=TS100507

- IMMEDIATELY install and update the free antivirus, then check to ensure that the Windows Firewall is turned on.
- check to see if this fixes the BSOD's
NOTE: NEVER run more than 1 anti-virus, firewall, Internet Security/Security Center application at the same time.

The single memory dump blames your Intel Storage drivers. I'd suggest:
- download a fresh copy of the storage drivers from the Lenovo support website
- uninstall the current Intel Storage drivers from your system.
- install the freshly downloaded drivers and monitor for further BSOD's.

The HDMI plug in issue will likely be separate, so let us know if this fixes the HDMI issue or not.

If the above steps don't stop the BSOD's, please zip up and upload any new memory dumps with your next post - and we'll see what we can figure out from there.

I need some help on this one. I know how to go to Computer Mgt -> Device Manager, but I'm not sure what to uninstall. Furthermore, which drivers am I supposed to download? P.S. Windows update did just install update to Intel 4000 video card.

I uninstalled both of my antivirus. I initially, sometime in the past, uninstalled McAfee but apparently it didn't fully uninstall. So, thank you for the link. I also uninstalled Norton per your instruction; HOWEVER, I don't feel comfortable downloading the free antivirus. Why can I not re-install Norton?

You can do whatever you'd like. But, why is it that you feel uncomfortable with MSE? I would venture to say that 99% of us, here at SF and other tech support forums, use MSE. My browsing and activity isn't always on the up and up, and I have never had issues. Besides, who better to protect your PC than the people who designed the OS?

From experience, Norton and McAfee have both failed me. MSE, never has. Just because it's free, doesn't mean anything.

Malwarebytes free scanner, is among the best malware killers out there.

I'll need the exact model of your laptop in order to ensure that I get the correct drivers. Here's a listing of a bunch of different models: IdeaPad Y480 14" Laptop | Shop | Lenovo | (US)

Just FYI - the free antivirus is only for testing (and, therefore, only temporary). Once we figure out if it was the Norton/McAfee, or both - then feel free to reinstall the Norton. Don't forget to uninstall the free antivirus before installing the latest version of Norton.

The bad reputation that Norton had from the past is largely overcome these days - but I'm still suspicious of it, so I keep my eye on it!

Did you get the storage drivers removed/installed?
First check Control Panel...Programs...Uninstall a program.

My model is: 209387U. If I go to the Lenovo, Ideapad support and put in my S/N, I get to this page with the drivers: Lenovo Support - Drivers & Downloads.

I didn't remove the storage drivers b/c I don't know which ones? I'm attaching screen shots of my uninstall options.

That makes sense. I did uninstall both of the anitvirus programs which didn't fix the issue. Am I cleared hot to reinstall one now?
