Windows 7: Recent BSOD, probably after updating to FF 12 or having installed DAP

For the USB issue alone, I would suggest you have it serviced.

You can try some USB troubleshooting first to see if it can be resolved at home if you'd like, but you paid for the Warranty and should use it.

USB Troubleshooting:
For the USB problems...
  • Start with USB Driver - General Fix for Problems to resolve the USB issues. Also, USB ports can sometimes enter a safe power state to protect the system from power surges due to USB devices. To reset the USB ports to a nominal power state:
    1. Shut down and turn off the computer.
    2. Unplug the computer from the wall or surge protector (then remove the battery if it is a laptop).
    3. "Remove the computer from any port replicator or docking station, disconnect
cables to printers or devices such as external monitors, USB memory sticks or SD cards, headset or external speakers, mouse or auxiliary keyboard, turn off WIFI and Bluetooth wireless devices." (Use Hard Reset to Resolve Hardware and Software Issues HP Pavilion dv5000 Notebook PC series - HP Customer Care (United States - English))
    4. Hold down the power button for 30 seconds. This closes the circuit and ensures all
power from components is drained to clear the software connections between the BIOS
and hardware and clear any corruption in the temporary memory.
    5. (If it is a laptop, plug the battery back into the laptop and then) Plug the computer back into the wall. Do not reconnect any unnecessary peripherals; monitor, keyboard,
and mouse should suffice and be the only peripherals reconnected.
    6. Turn it on to reinitialize the software connections between the BIOS and hardware

I agree with writhziden, in that this looks to be hardware. Don't bother trying to ascertain exact hardware; rather if you got an active warranty, put it to use ASAP before it expires. Do not allow them to try and "repair it". You'll probably need to request them to give you a replacement. Pressure them to do so, as they will try their best to repair and not replace. Naturally, back up your data to something else if at all possible, which I understand may be difficult as you're having problems with your USB (or the external drive itself is bad? Check it with another PC to confirm). Regardless if you ask them to repair or replace it, there's a possibility that they'll wipe your data.

I think i should make a couple of things clear.
I have three USB ports in my laptop. All three are functioning, but one among them is a bit loose: as in if my ext HD is attached, and i move my laptop around a bit, the connection gets lost and the HD is not detected for a while, but it is back soon enough. (If a pen drive is attached, there aren't any problems).
Regarding my external HD, i have run a chkdsk on all of them. Chkdsk found some errors on one, which it repaired. Subsequently, none of them have shown any erros. Neither have the pendrives, nor the partitions of my HD.

Normally, i would not have any issues in giving the laptop for repair. But i have a deadline to meet on 15th, and my warranty runs till 13th. So i'm in a bit of a dilemma here. Hope you can resolve it for me!

Another thing is that around a year back, i had to replace my laptop's LAN port because it (physically) fell to the floor (long story!) The LAN port was the only damage i could see. But the problematic USB port is right beside that LAN port. Can they be related?
I used to get the USB error message (PFA screenshots) when i went for the LAN port replacement (there was a few months gap between the 'crash' & the replacement, so i don't remember when the error messages first came).
When i asked the Sony guys, they asked me to format it. But i was unwilling to do so, as they would have reset it to Vista, & i would need to reinstall 7 again, apart from all the softwares/files/etc.
Does it / do i make any sense?!

But the external drive fails to be detected properly regardless which USB port you use, correct? If that's the case, then the first possibility is the drive itself is bad (not uncommon for external drives), which you can ascertain by checking it with another PC. Or, another very likely cause is an internal issue with the USB controller, in which case there's no magic you can work to make it somehow fixed without an entire replacement (as in replacing the motherboard). If you wish, check the pins on all your USB ports to make sure there are no bent or broken pins. If they are bent, at least straighten and spread them out (when your PC is off, of course) so they will not short out on anything, and forgo using that port anymore.

If the only port causing woes is that particular port, then, well, don't use that port! But commonly if a port is down without any sign of physical damage then it's conducive of internal failure that will eventually spread to other ports and perhaps even other misbehavior from the motherboard.

If you are on a deadline for something in which you must use a PC, then you'll probably want to use something else in the meantime. If you're in desperation mode, use even a public PC like in a library or something. You'll need a reliable system, and right now your laptop is not one. Plus it will be a very costly decision to miss out on your warranty like this, as you will then need to purchase a new laptop. We can still work with you on trying to resolve this (though I don't think it'll be any good, as it evidently needs replacement), it's still wise to shift your work over to a more reliable environment in the meantime while we fiddle with this one.

I finally got back my laptop after over a month of negotiating with the people at the service center. They were quite unwilling to replace the motherboard.
Finally, i don't have the earlier problem.
I have reinstalled Win7 Prof 32-bit.
I am facing a minor problem regarding a few drivers: fingerprint, memory card, touchpad & SD card. All the drivers are available at the Sony site. (Support for VGN-CS35GN : CS Series : VAIO™ Laptop & Computer : Sony India)
But for some reason when i'm installing these 4 drivers i'm getting an error message saying that these drivers are not meant for my laptop or that these drivers are for Win7. The fingerprint one somehow got detected otherwise. I could download the touchpad driver from Synaptics. But i'm not being able to do anything for te memory card & SC card drivers. I understand it's a Ricoh device, but there site isn't really helpful.
I am attaching the perfmon report, as i'm not sure what other info you may need.

Type "msinfo32" in start menu and press Enter, then from the window that pops up click File > Save. Send us the resulting file.

Part of me thinks what's happening here is that they may have put in another motherboard. Other then that, I'm not sure how to help you here with the drivers. It's something you may need to end up calling their tech support about, as they're more familiar with the hardware.

I am attaching the msinfo file. Please check it. The people at Sony are quite useless to be honest, so i don't expect much from them.

This crash came too late, unfortunately. You may need to turn Driver Verifier and see what comes up from there. I'm sorry to hear the returned laptop did not fix the issue, hence why I try to urge OEM vendors to replace the entire PC instead of separate components. It sounds like you're having major issues with Sony just to replace a part (Sony is notorious for bad customer support), so replacing the whole laptop sounds highly unlikely.

We'll see what we can do from here on, but it does sound you may wanna start saving up some money for a replacement laptop from a more reputable brand name like Lenovo. They all have their faults, but so far I've heard Lenovo is topping charts in reliability and support. Not surprised given their laptop division is really IBM's old division. Best case scenario, however, would be you just getting new RAM or a HD, since either appears involved here with this latest crashdump.
