    BSOD playing starcraft

    Hi all,

I have had some BSOD. My game comes to a screaching halt, the audio screams, i get the BSOD but not long enough to read. Neither is there a dump file. I ran memtest a few times, all passes, no errors. I ran driver verifier a whole day, without getting a bsod. I cleaned my pc, checked for loose fittings. I got myself the latest nvidia driver for my gtx 550. Just now i had another bsod, but now there is a dump. i attached it according to the instructions.

Im running win 7 ultimate 64 on a OCZ ssd.
AMD phenom quad core, stock speed
    asus mobo
    asus geforce gtx 550 gpu
    Geil 4x4gb

    Hope u guys can help

Hello jeroenlucassen and welcome to Sevenforums!

There's a few things to look at here, especially a few drivers I've suspected. Your dump does not contain a whole bunch of useful information, just the usual bugchecks and kernel pointers - which we cannot use to a whole lot. Was this the only dump you were able to upload? With that said, let's look at some conclusions.

    BSOD Analyse

    Be aware of these drivers

    Code:
    Modulenaam: PCASp50a64
Weergegeven naam: PCASp50a64 NDIS Protocol Driver
    Stuurprogrammatype: Kernel
    Datum koppeling: 29-11-2006 3:45:19
PCAUSA, a single small company driven by a single guy. The driver is quite old. If you can find this extension in Control Panel > Uninstall Programs/Software I suggest uninstalling it if you don't use it to something specific. If the driver keeps showing in C:\Windows\system32\Drivers\PCASp50a64.sys, let me know and we'll find a path to get rid of it.

    SFC /scannow

We usually ask people to do this command to check if Windows is corrupted. It's the most common used one to check if the Windows files are corrupted. If it'll find errors, it'll restore them.

       Tip
If you're having a custom customization layer on your Aero, it's likely to get restored to default.

Press Start | search 'cmd' | Right-click it
    | open as Admin | type SFC /SCANNOW

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

That's basically what I've found. Remember to unplug any devices that you don't use by the looks of it.

    Best Regards,
    Frederik.

    Hi Fredegail,

Thanks for the fast responce. I did the sfc scannow, no problems where found. I dont have any more dump files to upload, because most bsod do not give a dump.

i cannot locate the driver you mentioned in control panel, need some more help there.

I did get another bsod, but this time i was fast enough to read the error, but again no dumpfile.
the error is: page fault in non paged area. Shown in the bsod.

    hope this helps

Can you upload that dump connected to your recent BSOD? The driver I mentioned is a bit pointless at this moment, we want to tract the main events going on, and then the secondary afterwards.

    Thank you!

    Frederik.

    Hi Frederik,

I unplugged my usb hdd, since i had a feeling that might be the one to blame for the bsod. Since then i played a fair amount of games without having any chrashes. So my system seems to be stable for now. I will not yet mark this topic solved, but im happy so far.

Just to give a heads up.

    Hi Jeroenlucassen,

    Great news!
If you can keep it going like that, it's sweet. Tough, if you're experiencing more BSODs, upload them and we'll analyse them.

    Best Regards,
    Frederik.

    Hello again,

    BSOD Analyse

Your bugcheck code referred to overall hardware. Below I attached a little information on some common things it could relate on.

    Memory

Looking at your bugcheck it's likely that a memory corruption event were there. Though a driver could be causing the memory to be borked, but we're usually suggesting a memory test before moving forward. Do a scan with Memtest86+. Memtest is a scanner that'll check your sticks for errors. To ensure that we'll know if it's the slots on the motherboard that's broken, or the sticks itself - we have a little procedure we'll recommend. Remove 1 stick, scan the other with Memtest in the current slot. After 7 passes, move the stick to another slot and scan, and so on and so forth until you've scanned all the sticks, and all the slots, one by one.

Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

    CPU

First of all I'd suggest you to make sure that your CPU is connected all the way in. Open your case, plug out the fan, give the CPU and the fan a blow, and install everything back in. Also make sure that your fan is connected all the way in, and isn't in any way loose.

When you've done that, I'd suggest you to do a Stress Test using Prime. Details below.

    Best Regards,
    Frederik.
