Something does not quite match up here. Was this a self-built system, or did you buy it pre-manufactured?

The OS software and license is from a laptop which I purchased and never use anymore. The machine itself is self but but I've been running it in this configuration for three years now.

I am afraid your installation is not genuine. Non-Genuine Windows contains security leaks and also cannot be properly updated which may result in instabilities and blue screen crashes. If you were not aware that your Windows was Non-Genuine, contact your seller or the company that provided the seller and file a complaint. Also let Microsoft know of the problem.

I am sorry, but due to forum rules, we may not assist you further until you install a genuine version of Windows 7. Once you have installed genuine Windows 7:
Please follow the Windows Genuine and Activation Issue Posting Instructions. Post the results in your next post; do not start a new thread.

I'm confused... For sure it is a genuine installation of windows. I have the original CD with key from acer right in front of me.

Can you tell me how it was determined that the copy is not genuine?

I will have our activation expert take a look. Seems suspicious to me, but maybe I am wrong. If I am wrong, you have my sincerest apologies.

    If I have understood correctly:

    - the OS came preinstalled as an OEM on an Acer laptop
    - you have since installed this OEM licence to another PC

You cannot do this. The OEM licence is permanently tied to the laptop, and cannot be transferred to another laptop/PC.

Interesting how a custom build will have an acer key.

Of course, you can contact Microsoft.
