I decided to start all over again and go through all the troubleshooting steps again to be sure that it is down to the CPU and found that the problem was actually the PSU. I feel a bit silly but glad that this 5 week ordeal is now over!

I had checked the system with the Enermax PSU when I was having a different problem but not with this latest problem.

Anyway here's a summary of my problems and solutions since building this computer for anyone looking for answers:

    Problem 1 - Sound and video static/flickers
Solution - Ran dpclat while disabling and re-enabling each piece of hardware watching for drops in latency. Found it to be bad Marvel drivers
Problem 2 - 0x0000005 crash in games and other programs
Solution - Checked RAM one stick at a time as the problems did not show up in Memtest86+. Replaced RAM
Problem 3 - Noise on system sensors
    Solution - Uninstalled ASUS sofware
Problem 4 - Black screen crashes forcing hard reset after gaming for 30-60mins
Solution - Checked system with another PSU. Replaced PSU.

In case you are interested, I replaced the PSU with a SilverStone SST-ST75F-P

The replacement motherboard I bought was the Maximus 4 Extreme-z (cheap deal - 15000yen) so I gave my P8Z68 Deluxe to my fiance, bought her an i3 2120 and gave her 2 sticks of my RAM (I don't think I really need 16GB)

Now, if I have any problems with either machine I have another with interchangeable parts!

    Thanks for all your help.

    You're welcome.

Glad to hear you found the cause, Well done.

The PSU was questionable but, when it ran ok on system #2 it seemed to move it down the list of possibilities.

The two biggest hardware causes of crashes are RAM and PSUs.

Yeah, I thought so too. Perhaps system #2 wasn't drawing as much power or had better ventilation...

The rig I set up here was made of all second hand parts except for the RAM and PSU and they are the only components that turned out to be faulty and both were exchanged twice! The first PSU stopped working completely!
I suppose that at least the second hand parts had been tested by someone!

Whatever the reason, I'm just glad to have a working computer! (and I've learned a lot!!)

    Thanks again!

PS I tried to add more rep but couldn't... I owe you both!

A good PSU is worth every penny, as you've found out.

Good luck with your rig, let us know if you have any more issues or questions.

No worries. I am happy that the problem was solved. That means more to me than you clicking a button on the post.

I am glad we were able to help you resolve the problem. Also: Thank you Dave for the excellent suggestions and teamwork. Always a pleasure to work with you.
