I've been having BSoD problems for a couple of months now...

Do NOT listen to what you heard!

Follow the procedure that MSI gives.

They also provide a description, which is more complicated, of performing that update using a pen drive, however, they and I both recommend that you use the "automatic" approach.

Incidentally, the instructions you mentioned are only part of the story.

Do not creative or listen to your techie friends. Listen to and follow the advise of MSI.
Ugh. It was exactly the sort of hassle I expected. After I've flashed the BIOS using Windows mode in MSI Live Update 5, my computer BSoD'd continuously each time I rebooted, when reaching the Windows logo. Windows started to do some repairing stuff that didn't work and I panicked and called the computer support.

Apparently, the BIOS was configured to use IDE instead of SATA and something with extreme memory was also erroneously configured. My CPU fan speed too (default was 100 %). The computer seems to work now though, but it wasn't just following MSI's instructions.

My help desk that I called wanted me to RMA both memory modules.

I haven't done the memory test yet, but I've had no BSoD since July 6th and they usually occur once a week. Maybe the BIOS flash fixed something, but as we say in Sweden: ta i trä (knock on wood).

I'm keeping my fingers crossed (jag håller tummarna)!

You can continue to hold off on the memory test since there are no more BSODs.

    Sayings are the same here.
German saying for cross the fingers translates to "push the thumbs", Ich drücke die Daumen, which is closer to the Swedish expression.

    I'll follow your advice then!

About the sayings, that is interesting, but as our countries are pretty close to each other it's maybe not that strange.

By the way, in the future, when recommending MSI Live Update for BIOS flashing, maybe you should mention that perhaps some BIOS settings must be changed. I nearly had a heart attack when it BSoD'd each boot on the Windows screen. The BIOS flash obviously installed properly, but harddrive, memory and CPU fan settings were configured wrong. Just saying, to prevent heart attacks!

Interesting about the MSI Live Update. I definitely appreciate the feedback. Maybe one of my compadres with a msi board can help me out next time.

Sure. I was cursing your username to hell when it was happening, but now I am very pleased with your help once again. :)

Haha. Well, enough with the off-topic now. I'll drop in again in a couple of weeks if nothing happens and let you know if the BIOS was a permanent fix. If I don't get a new BSoD before that...

Since my computer is already involved in this ongoing investigation, I'll post this here and will not create a new thread.

Just now, when I booted my computer, went to the kitchen and came back, it was doing some repairing since it apparently couldn't start Windows. It was the same program that ran when I hadn't set up memory and harddrive options after doing the BIOS flash.

After it had finished (it said it had failed to repair) I went into BIOS and checked these options. They were still set so I rebooted and arrived in Windows without any problems. (This repairing tool is outside Windows, low resolution and starts when the boot fails at the Windows logo.)

What could be the cause of this? I can't find a minidump since it probably never could reach Windows. The computer has performed perfectly after BIOS flash until this misbehaviour. I had one quick TDR on my graphics card yesterday, but the driver rebooted without me having to exit Assassin's Creed: Revelations. Other than that: no problems. I don't really know what to make of this, but failing to boot Windows even once concerns me greatly.
