Windows 7 Black Screen of Death (work around)

Was wondering if I installed windows 7 on an external and booted from the external then took off all my pics and stuff from the C: drive and then reformat the C: drive again. Think this is possible. FYI the only way to get my original windows 7 disc to even load was to remove my internal HDD.

Unfortunately, you cannot install Windows 7 to an external drive. Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Boot may be helpful to you, though. It gives steps to resolve boot issues, and if those fail, backup your files and data and then re-install Windows cleanly and with good steps.
