Semi-regular but random BSODs - possibly due to PCI-E version mismatch

My hardware skills come from work where I can replace a card to test whenever I need to. We rarely get into detailed analysis of problems such as this (the differences between v2.1 and v2.0 in v1.0 slots) - and we primarily deal with OEM systems that aren't very customized. I'd suggest posting over in the hardware forums for more expert advice: Hardware & Devices - Windows 7 Forums

The memory dumps seem to indicate a hardware issue. I don't see evidence of any 3rd party issues here, which makes hardware the next most likely problem.

I'd start with these free diagnostics (and would concentrate on the memory and video diagnostics to start): Hardware Diagnostics

    Good luck!

We got the new card and PCI adapter and installed them last night...everything was going great for a while until it BSODed again, twice. It had also done it again once before, in between my last post and the installation of the new stuff. I'm attaching the logs as usual.

I did have a weird issue with installing the drivers for the new card (an EVGA GTX 550 Ti)...it kept giving me a "7zip: CRC" error. I looked this up and it seems to be associated with a number of things: corrupt file system, bad hard drive, bad memory. I eventually got it to install by running it a few times, but I do wonder if the drivers are corrupted. I may just do a complete reinstall of Windows and see if that helps...all the BSODing probably hasn't helped the file system integrity any.

Where did you get the drivers for the new card? Most often a 7zip error is a problem with the file itself.
Depending on how/what happened with the extraction and installation, it's possible that the driver installation further "borked" things.

No specific blame in the memory dumps, although they do seem to point towards video issues. This doesn't mean that it's necessarily the card (or even it's drivers). It's possible that a motherboard problem (could even be the slot that the card plugs into) could be causing this.

Please run Driver Verifier to see if it'll blame the video: Driver Verifier Settings

The first set of drivers I tried came from eVGA's website, I then also tried installing from the driver CD that came with it, and then finally from nVidia's website, all of these drivers had the same problem. It was the one from nvidia itself that ultimately worked. I doubt that all the files from all of these sources were corrupt, maybe it was an issue with Windows' decompression?

I will try the driver verifier tonight, hopefully that will show something.

    Thanks,
    Trent
