Windows 7 x64 freezes when idle / need to shutdown

Hello all and for the future help...

About 10 days ago my computer started to freeze while idle (occasional BSOD crashes while gaming but not frequently). There is no other way than shutting it down with the power button. This happens every single time I leave it idle.

It happens when no specific apps are running except utorrent. I tried to leave it overnight without utorrent running and it still crashed.

I also already disabled any sleep option.

I updated my graphic card drivers and my bios. however, i was unable to update the firmware of my SSD (Crucial M4 128gb) as it didn't find my drive.

I built my system in October 11 and all components were new at the time and didn't change any hardwar since then.

    System Info:

    OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64
    CPU Intel Core i7 2600K
Motherboard Asus P8P67 Pro Rev 3.1 (Révision B3)
    Memory Corsair VENGEANCE WHITE 2 x 4 Go DDR3 PC12800 CAS 9 LP
Graphics Card HIS Radeon HD 6970 2Go IceQ Turbo
    Sound Card Creative X-Fi Titanium
    Monitor(s) Displays Iiyama ProLite B2712HDS-B1 / Iiyama ProLite B2776HDS-B1
    Hard Drives main : Crucial M4 128 Go SATA Revision 3.0 / Seagate Barracuda XT SATA Revision 3.0 - 2 To - 64 Mo / Seagate Barracuda Green SATA Revision 3.0 - 2 To
    PSU Corsair AX - 750W
Case Cooler Master CM-690 II Advanced
Cooling Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro

I'm not that good with computers tech side but I hope you will be able to help me out.

    Thanks in advance,
    Actaka

UPDATE : I managed to update the firmware of my SSD. Still need to see if idle makes my computer freeze

    Aktacka,

    Welcome to SevenForums,

I'm not a BSOD analysis expert, just decades of experience fixing problems. Until one of the experts gets here, let's look at is probably causing your problems.

    Install CCleaner:
CCleaner - PC Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download

    list of STARTUP PROGRAMS

    CCleaner | Tools
icon | Startup button | Windows tab |
click on Save to text file button (bottom right side) |
accept Startup.txt as file name | SAVE button

    list of SCHEDULED TASKS

    CCleaner | Tools
icon | Startup button | Scheduled Tasks tab |
click on Save to text file button (bottom right side) |
enter Scheduled Tasks as File name | Save button

    List of INSTALLED PROGRAMS

    CCleaner | Tools
    icon | Uninstall button |
click on Save to text file button (bottom right side) |
accept install.txt as File name | Save button

UPLOAD, as an attachment, the startup.txt file
UPLOAD, as an attachment, the Scheduled Tasks.txt file
UPLOAD, as an attachment, the install.txt file.

    HOW TO UPLOAD

WIN | type MSCONFIG | ENTER | STARTUP tab |
    Uncheck ALL except for:
    Script:
    Sidebar    Microsoft Corporation    C:\Program Files\Windows Sidebar\sidebar.exe /autoRun
    REBOOT!

You have just told Win 7 to not run unchecked programs at start up time.

You have not disabled the programs. They will be run when needed.

WIN = key with the Microsoft logo on top
    ============================================

We are going to try this approach, but with the programs you've installed, then I suspect that I'll have to call in a true bsod expert to tell you that certain programs need to be uninstalled.

    After that reboot,
    UNINSTALL AVG
Install MSE (link in my signature)

AVG is a known source of problems.

CCLEANER | TOOLS icon | STARTUP tab | SCHEDULED TASKS tab |
Use DISABLE button to disable ALL

    Close CCleaner.

    REBOOT!

You have not disabled any programs. You have disabled the scheduled running.
Later, after your system is running smoothly, you may reenable desired programs.

    UNINSTALL

    Script:
    AVG 2012    AVG Technologies    17/03/2012        2012.0.1913
    Bonjour    Apple Inc
    .    16/10/2011    2,00 MB    3.0.0.10
DAEMON Tools Lite    DT Soft Ltd    21
    /04/2012        4.45.4.0315
    µTorrent        4
    /05/2012        3.1.3
    REBOOT

I also suggest that you uninstall all games that you no longer play.
those above are all known troublemakers.

    REMOVAL OF P2P PROGRAMS

There are signs of one or more P2P (Peer to Peer) File Sharing Programs on your computer.

As long as you are using any form of P2P networking to download files, you can anticipate malware infestations.

I strongly recommend that you uninstall:
    µTorrent
    BitTorrent
    Vuze

    Hi karlsnooks,

Thanks for the tips, I'll give it a try asap.

    Is MSE a good antivirus?
In the meantime I was able to update the firmware of my SSD Crucial M4. I haven't had a crash since then and the system was idle for a couple of hours.
Might have been the fix I was looking for... but fingers crossed.

I'll reinstall MSE instead of AVG then.

    Kind regards,
    Actaka
