Windows 7: BSOD Copying large folders to new WD 3TB internal drive

I had a lot of crashes today - it took hours to get back into windows. I took out the 3 TB hard drive yesterday and things seemed stable, so I began a Microsoft Backup with Image to a network drive. The backup file got to about 120GB and them my computer shut down. After multiple chkdsks and repairs I finally am back into windows again. I have no idea what is going on but it seems like any time I begin a lengthy process (e.g. windows backup, acronis backup, copying large folders) my machine will crash. For everything else, it is stable. Obviously this is a huge problem as I can not back up any of my work. Does anyone have any ideas on what could be happening? It is a brand new system, this is so annoying. Thank you...

Got a few more BSODs with stop codes 0x7E followed by 0x6B - this one happened without anything major running. I think I was just in a browser, no large file copies etc...I could really use some help if anyone out there has time, I'm out of my area of expertise here and have no idea what to do. I just opened the case and moved the video card down, took out the wireless card and switched my two memory sticks to alternate locations (1,3 instead of the default 2,4), but right now I'm just grasping at straws...

It seems a lot of your services are shutting down unexpectedly. Possible virus, but to be sure do the following:

Quote:
Do a full scan of your system using: Microsoft Security Essentials - Free Antivirus for Windows

Afterwards: Malwarebytes : Free anti-malware download

If nothing pops up for both of those,

try: Windows Defender Offline
Post back results.

I will do that - I'm not sure if it's a virus because I've been getting bsod/restarts just a day or two after I got the system, before I really even was on the internet (unless it had a virus out of the box or something). I have run security essentials and malewarebytes in the past with no issues, but I'm not sure I did a full scan. I'll do that now.

In the meantime, I ran sfc /scannow again and this time it said "Verification 100% complete.
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.
Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example
C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log"

I have attached the log if that helps. Thanks!

I'm also wondering if maybe my power supply is bad and that could be causing the services to stop? I'm on a UPS but maybe my computer battery is bad? Just a guess - I don't suppose there is an app like memtest for batteries?

Security Essentials passed full scan. Running Malwarebytes now and it's looking good so far. I'll update tomorrow after it finishes - thanks

Hi Justin,

I ran all three virus scans and no malicious programs were detected. I didn't know about Windows Defender Offline, that will be useful in the future. Do you have any other ideas what could be causing all these random services to fail? Bad motherboard or power supply? Would faulty memory do this? I don't really have a lot of cash to go out and buy all new stuff since i just bought this machine so any educated guess as to what to look at first? Thanks!

I have updated windows from a disk to see if that helps. If it doesn't, I'll probably start swapping out hardware - with my luck, I'm sure I'll get another bsod soon so any advice on what hardware I should swap out first? I'm thinking about starting with either the power supply or memory since I'm nervous about an entirely new motherboard...

I am having some problems copying large files to my computer from an external hard drive. The copying process starts but then seems to freeze after a couple of minutes. Is this happening to anyone else and is there anything I can do?
