I have had a similar issues in the past because of corrupted video files.
Windows would begin to load the folder & try to generate the thumbnail.
Then it would just crash & a few times even had a blue screen.
That was with MP4 files specifically.
What I did was to open the folder & immediately click the stop button on top before the folder could begin to load the thumbnail.
Then I went in & changed the view to details.
Once that was done I got rid of the offending file.
If I did not know which one was corrupted I ran a
Disk Check
Just a basic run following step 7 here
took care of the problem with the folder then no more crashes when opening the folder.
