    Yes that's what I meant.
I explain it step by step, because I think you don't know what I'm talking about.
Start you PC and enter BIOS. Search some setting about SATA. It's set to AHCI now in BIOS. How is that option called? And what possible values can you set? Something like IDE, AHCI, RAID? It's now set to RAID? Just check...don't change yet.

Do you have another computer to communicate with me in case it fails and doesn't reboot?

Yep I do have another laptop if something goes wrong. Problem with the BIOS, I have a feeling HP is leaving some options out - but there are no options to look at or change the HD. I took some photos of each menu, I will add them shortly.

Edit: Right here are the menu options.

When you post something there's a paperclip in the bar above the text. Click on it then browse to a few picture and press upload. Then click on "close this window".

    Imgur is overloaded now!

I use imgur because it removes the EXIF data. Have attached.

When you boot your system do you see RAID menu briefly? Sometimes the ctrl-i at boot time will get you into the RAID menu.

I tried ctrl-i, no luck - I have an HP pavilion dv7, from the looks of it it seems HP are limiting controls to prevent overclocking...

    Argh!

Look and don't blink with your eyes. Nothing on firts screen with HP logo, or just after it? Most of the time on bottom of screen. Nothing like press ctrl-i to enter raid or something similar. maybe ctrl-n as someone else wrote
