BSODs on start up and freezes in Windows

Hey guys, I am having some trouble with an old computer (approx 5 years old).

Just done a fresh windows 7 install a few weeks back and problems have been arising since. Mobo/CMOS battery has also just been freshly replaced.

Some of the BSODs as reported by bluescreenview include PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA, UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP, SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED, DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and BAD_POOL_HEADER.

The system used to be overclocked (both CPU and memory). I have since downclocked the processor to its default speed and underclocked the memory and loosened the timings in a hope it may be related to the problem but nothing has helped so far.

I also get complete freezes in windows 7 from time to time, requiring a reboot. Also run chdsk on both connected drives and nothing unusual has been reported. I have also run a check to verify that the windows file systems integrity is ok.

Any help greatly appreciated.

By any chance are you using a USB modem?

Code:
DEFAULT_BUCKET_ID: VERIFIER_ENABLED_VISTA_MINIDUMP
For now please turn off the Driver Verifier: Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable

Code:
uGuru.sys Wed Sep 20 03:31:44 2006 (4510FC70)
SiWinAcc.sys Thu Jun 14 19:02:27 2007 (4671D713)
SiRemFil.sys Wed Jun 20 15:06:09 2007 (467988B1)
SI3132.sys Wed Oct 3 13:41:04 2007 (4703E240)
Drivers before 2009 are known to cause problems. Please update:

uGuru.sys
SiWinAcc.sys
SiRemFil.sys
SI3132.sys

After, Please post back results.

Thanks for taking some time to analyse my logs HonorGamer.

To answer your first question, yes I am using a USB dongle to access the internet over 3G/HSDPA. This has been used on numerous computers in the house and it has never caused any issue, freeze or BSOD for them. One computer uses Windows XP, while the other uses Windows 7 without any issues.

As per your suggestion I have turned off Driver Verifier.

Regarding the following old drivers:

uGuru.sys
SiWinAcc.sys
SiRemFil.sys
SI3132.sys

I cannot locate any newer driver for uGuru.sys. Device manager reports a driver version of 6.0.1.0 with a date of 12th April 2007. Windows Update also reports it cannot find a newer driver and responds by saying it is the latest. A further search on Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com reveals that 6.0.1.0 is the latest they have. The situation is further compounded by the fact that Abit doesn't exist anymore and their website with drivers etc has been shutdown.

The following three: SiWinAcc.sys, SiRemFil.sys, SI3132.sys along belong as part of the same driver. An attempt to update these via Windows Update finds nothing and it reports back that these are the latest available.

A search on Silicon Image - Support for SI3132 locates a windows 7 supported driver dated on 12th June 2009. An attempt to update Si3132 via the device manager with this new driver fails, with windows reporting that the currently installed driver is already the latest available.

Sometimes windows does not like the use of USB modems. Even though they may work on other machines, doesn't mean something won't happen on a different one.

For updating the old drivers, i provided you with a link. Simply click on the driver.

I have used your link, as described in my previous post. Unfortunately, for uguru.sys, no newer drivers are available and for the SI3132, the latest drivers from the Silicon Image site cannot be installed due to Windows saying the latest are already installed.

As a follow up to this, I have disabled the FDD (floppy disk drive) controller and anything related to the floppy drive in the bios, because the computer doesn't actually have a floppy drive. I also disabled the 1394 (firewire) controller in the bios as it is not being used.

Furthermore, I unplugged all attached USB devices except for mouse and keyboard and the computer seems to be stable for now (touch wood)...

Knock on wood?

But anyway, It is possible that you may have either bad drivers or bad ports. Do a Windows update, and you should be able to get the latest drivers.
