Hello, i wanted to wipe my computer and reinstall windows 7 to have a clean slate. I downloaded windows 7 from Digital River and saved to a usb. i have a legal windows key purchased form MS. during the install i performed a hd "clean" through cmd. upon start up i got the bsod but was unable to capture the error. the SF diganostic file is attached.

    i am using a dell 1420 with windows 7 64 bit.

Did you download all of the drivers for your laptop from Dell?

i did not download any drivers from dell. after a quick look through device manager it seems all devices are ok except for "Base System Device". when searching for the drivers through DM it cant find any.

You must visit Dell and download all of the drivers for your laptop. I suspect once you do that and you install them, your BSOD will stop. I am a long-time owner of many laptops, and they almost always require custom drivers from the manufacturer in order to run stable.

I have a 1420 that I successfully installed Windows 7 on. Review this thread:

As Windows 7 is not supported by Dell, any instabilities you have require you to fix on your own. That's the curse of putting an OS on older, non-supported hardware.
