Windows 7: BSOD at start-up (athr.sys)

Hi there,

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate (32 bit) and have started experiencing frequent BSODs, often during start-ups, but also after proper start-ups, at seemingly random times while the computer is being used. I've managed to catch the file name "athr.sys" in most of the BSODs, although I do not know which error has occurred.

The Seven Forums ZIP file is attached.

Yep most of the crashes are blamed on athr.sys (Atheros Extensible Wireless LAN driver for CB42/CB43/MB42/MB43 Network Adapter - D-Link AirPlus DWL-G520 Wireless PCI Adapter(rev.B) discontinued 2008)

Driver Reference Table - athr.sys

You will need to check the manufacturers site of your wifi adapter and see if you can find an updated driver.

Thank you for being so fast! Is there any chance you could tell me where I should copy the contents of the driver ZIP file? And is there anything else worthy of note in the files I uploaded?

No .exe's, just the .sys and some .cat's and .inf's.

Ok go to device manager (type device manger into your start search box if you cant find it) then locate the wireless network card -> right click -> update driver -> point it to your new unzipped driver folder.

Weird, it told me that the latest driver was already installed? (Thanks for the "directions".)

It maybe worth uninstalling the drivers rebooting and then installing them again.

If that doesn't cure it you could see if you can find a different (maybe older) version of the driver.
