Solved windows 7 hanging and crashing but not on xp

i have a computer that when on windows 7 hangs and crashes frequently but it runs prefectly fine on windows xp. i have been using windows xp on the computer that has the problem with windows 7 for months now and it works fine i have run the windows 7 upgrade advisor and it doesnt show any hardware that is incompatable other then the lan which just has new drivers for windows 7 is there npart of the wsoftware build that is in win 7 that is not included in win xp that could been causing the hang as it also works in windows 7 safe mode as well. any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated

i have posted on the forums before in 2 different threads with the similar issue but i did follow your instructions to go and get the program but i got a error when i tryed to open it as i am currently on the computer with the problem but in windows xp nmot windows 7 as i cant sue 7 as it hangs as soon as i log in

From what I am reading here, it seems you are Dual Booting? or did I mis-read it?

1. Did you do ALL Windows updates?
2. They usually recommend that you do a Clean Install and not an upgrade, it usually works better...
3. How much memory do you have installed? (Start>> Right click on COMPUTER go to properties....)
4. Are you getting BSOD Errors/Crashes? also run WHO CRASHED... http://www.resplendence.com/downloads that will also tell you exactly what is causing it...

i didnt get a chance to do the updates it hangfs right after you get to desktop and sits there and i have 2 gig ram kingston installed and it is done on a clean install but as i said i can get to safe mode

and im not dual booting i just have xp at the moment but i have the abiulty to dual boot if needed

I don't know how to read these yet...but did you run Who Crashed?...it's free...and easy to read....it tells you exactly what caused the BSOD...and so does Blue Screen View...which is also free....

the only thing is i dont get a bsod as it just hangs at the screen after welcome screen then comes back later on anywhere between 5 mins and a hour its hangs but never goes into bsod

Ok...go to START and in the box on the lower left hand side and type MSCONFIG and go into START UP tab...and uncheck everything you don't need...This might help you, but I don't think this will be the fix...as I am unsure as to why this is happening...need more info.....

Also, did you say you did an Upgrade from XP to Win 7? or a Clean install?

i have done a clean install before on this comp nd the error happened so im removed win 7 and put xp so i could use the computer while i try and work out with the help of the community forum why this is happeneing as it is very confusing

The OP is using Windows XP and there are no dumps in the zip file.

yes im allready a it tech but only lopow level done reinstall, clean and upgrades from stystem many times on many diofferent computer and this is the first time i have come accross this error as i said if i load the computer in win 7 safe mode works fine other then being in safe mode but if i try and load up normally after the welcome screen when you get to the desktop it freezes

yeh i can use win7 to do a dump file as it freezes but i will give it ago and repost with the findings etc

Please upload any dump files you are getting from your Windows 7.

Also perform a clean start up following the tutorial below.

i can no install the updates or do anything on windo3ws 7 as it freezes not long afdter loading up thats why i used the tool staraigt away before it froze on me there is no other programs installed other then the os it hangs in normal mode but is fine in safe mode

Unplug ALL USB devices except the mouse and keyboard... (this should be done on a clean install as well) So people don't do this when they install an OS...I always do myself. I'm not sure if you did this or not, so if you didn't, then do so, and re-install/format and take it from there. Perhaps, you have a device that is causing this to be your issue... Even unplug external HDD's. I found my External 3TB HDD was causing ALL my USB devices to have a delayed Start up...You have nothing to lose here...

Also, I would go into your BIOS (usually at start up, you have to hit the F2 or Delete key, it varies on computers) and turn off (disable) your A: drive which is your Floppy...no one uses them anymore...

all you suggested has been done it is running on a clean partition formatted etc there is only mouse and keyboard plugged in and it still hangs

i had another go at installing all the updates but the os hangs and then it wont download the updates or install them
