Been about 4 days now and the BSOD's have ceased. Looks like Avast and Comodo were the culprits, though they worked fine together for almost a year. Might have been one or the other weren't playing nice. Oh well......Microsoft Security Essentials seems to work well and is certainly clean and less obtrusive than Avast with it "VIRUS DATABASE HAS BEEN UPDATED!!" announcements every time I logged on. Thanks guys. If they occur again I'll be back, but for now things are better and that's a good thing.

That's good to hear Some times anti virus and or firewall programs update their core files. that's probably why it worked for so long without any errors etc.

You was using Comodo as the firewall right? Since you have removed it, can you check that the windows firewall is active, just to be on the safe side! Go to 'Control Panel > Windows Firewall check that its on.
