Random BSOD & Applications crashing

Hi,

Having completed a self build (MSI X79A-GD45 (8D), Intel Core i73820, Corsair Vengeance 16GB RAM, nVidia GeForce GT 220) a few weeks ago I have been getting random BSOD (mostly referring to ntoskrnl.exe, but others are listed also). BSOD reports Memory_Management, PFN_List_Corrupt amongst others.

Also random applications (such as IE, Firefox, Thunderbird & gadgets) stop working and have to close, sometimes repeatedly. A re-boot usually gets them working again and the BSOD and application crashes dont always happen at the same time.

I should also say that during the build the RAM was configured as Quad channel (as per manufaturer instructions). I installed windows, and Motherboard utilities, but then the PC would not boot. It came down to the Memory config and a problem in Quad channel. Installing it as Triple channel allowed it to boot (all modules and Dimm slots were tested individually and found to be ok).

Could the BSOD be related to this issue? Or is there something else going on?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

Welcome
Looks like your hunch might be valid.
Test memory
Run for 8 passes.
Then test each stick in a good slot for 6 passes.
If you have dual channel, the results may be incorrect, if shows pass.

Sent the mainboard back to manufacturer (MSI) as their tech support thought it may be faulty. Will post update when I hear back.

Thanks
