Assuming the BSOD didnt return..... try using other power option like the power saver ..
And do this as well ..... After selecting power save ..... go into change plan settings ... then click on "Change Advanced Power Setting" ... then click on Sleep > Allow hybrid sleep.... set both to "OFF" .. this should be off by default
One more thing.... do check the hybrid sleep for the "Balance power" option as well.....

Sleep shouldn't take much time compared to hibernation, which would take time to save to disk....
