Richard:

I was called out of town till today. The laptop has been on since Saturday morning (9/1) and the Verifier has, I assume, been running in the background. What is the next step?

If you did not get any BSODs, we move to the next step. If you did have BSODs, submit to us.

No BSOD. The screen was left in Safe mode and the Control panel screen with no other programs or apps running -- that is where it was at when I returned home.

Ok begin using the computer and send the next BSOD reports, if any.
Try to note what you were doing at the time.

Since not specified, I shutdown the computer and rebooted in normal start up mode (the reason for this is I have had no BSOD in Safe ode but linited Windows functionality).

When rebooted without and extended resting time; the pc shows the Gateway bios then Windows in a black screen then a quick black screen, then restart into the bios screen, black w/ cursoe, bios, etc. etc. etc. I have turned the laptop off and leaving it sit!

I have followed through Step 4. Malwarebyte's database was and has been kept up. I ran a full scan. No malicious files.

I went to the Command prompt and ran sfc /scannow. Result: Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

Going to Step 5

I gave up on the tutorial and went to DefCon III after talking to one of my old systems guys. I told him all of the symptoms and attempted solutions. Because I ran about 6 different virus and malware applications and never found any infections, we ruled out that as a cause. I started thinking that because of the memory/IO and PTE error messages that possibly there was a problem with the SIMMs and my tech friend concurred. I removed and reseated the SIMMs and Windows finally started to the point of allowing the boot DVD that I previously mentioned that I created to work. I was able to start Windows after the files were loaded and Repair was completed. I shut the PC down after Java and other updates were completed. All seemed good so I Shut Down the Laptop and and reattached the cover. When I rebooted I got a BSOD IO error.

The removal and reinsertion of the SIMM seams to have solved most of the problems. I have successfully rebooted a couple of times. It is still flaky and I get an occasional BSOD with and IO error and something about debugging, during start up I should add. The screen does not stay in BSOD long so it's hard to read all of the text. The laptop will go into repair mode and generally gives a message about repair failed. I have been able to reboot a couple of times but not without a couple of tries and having Repair run again.

Any further thoughts? Any more definitive diagnostics I can run or download to determine/repair possible files? It just seems like there should be some utility to nail down the problem(s).
