BSOD - HTPC - Can WMC be the culprit?

Hi guys... first post for a noob. I recently built a machine to use as my primary HTPC. I'm using as my main TV via cable card and Ceton Infinity pci card. Within the last few weeks my machine have started to lock up periodically and I'll have to hard reboot, or if it happens during the night, the system will eventually reboot and I'll be presented with a config. or log on screen the next morning.

I think I followed the BSOD instructions correctly and have attached the zip file. Hopefully you can help. I'm not a developer so I've never debugged code before but will give it a try if I need to. Thanks for any assistance.

    Welcome aboard.

You are having a Bugcheck 0x24, with a probable cause Ntfs.sys.
    Code:
    *******************************************************************************
    *                                                                             *

So let us try to recover the error that is saying to be ntfs.sys.

    1. Reseat the sata and power.
    2. Run chkdsk /f/r, following the option two of the tutorial Disk Check
    3. Seatool for dos: SeaTools | Seagate download
Burn it in a blank cd. boot from the CD, click on "Accept", wait for it to finish detecting the drives, then in the upper left corner select "Basic Tests", then select "Long Test" and let it run.

    ► Another one:

    Code:
    ...........

    Probably caused by : tcpip.sys ( tcpip!TcpSegmentTcbSend+87 )

    Followup: MachineOwner
    ---------
tcpip.sys is network related. So upgrade the network drivers.
First, download the network card driver from manufactuer's website.
    Then reinstall the driver:

    1. Click the Start Button, type "devmgmt.msc" (without quotation marks) in the Start Menu Search box and press Enter.
    2. Double click to expand "Network adaptors".
    3. Right click your network card and click Uninstall.
    4. Check "Delete driver software for this device" check box, click OK.
    5. Restart the computer
    6. If windows does not auto configure the appropriate drivers at startup, install the downloaded one manually.

    Do it, for:

    • Intel(R) Gigabit CT Desktop Adapter
    • ASUS PCE-N15 11n Wireless LAN PCI-E Card
    • Ceton InfiniTV Network Device
    • RAS Async Adapter

Gigabyte Easy Tune 6 driver (known issues w/Win7) : GVTDrv64.sys
    Uninstall it, totally.

Intel Raid StorPort Driver : Very old, of 2005.
    Update it from http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Default.aspx

LSI Logic Fusion-MPT FC Driver (StorPort): Of 2008
Update it from Pages - Find Support By Product

► For some other reasons, I would suggest you to turn on Driver verifier. There are a lot of Bugchecks you have got, which are generally for Device Driver failure, but not traceable apparently. Driver verifier will contain more info about the crashes in the subsequent dumps.

OK... I tried all your suggestions... and more. No difference really. Tried Verifier, but it crashed before I could get into windows. Just decided to do a clean re-install of WIN7. This is the funny thing, I got a BSOD before Windows could complete the install. WTH. Of course there was no Minidump because Windows hadn't installed yet, but I did get the STOP message on the screen, "igkdmdk64.sys". Happening during install makes me think my problem is hardware related.

Anyway, Win7 installed successfully. However, as you can see in the attached Minidumps, I'm still getting the BSOD. The three earlier and later dumps did not have Verifier turned on, all in between Verifier WAS turned on. I tried to read them in WinBDg, but except for reading the information in Analyze V and seeing the error stating 'WIN 7 Driver Fault' and the original error presented on the BSOD, I can't decipher what I'm seeing. What's the saying, "A little bit of knowledge can be dangerous" :>. Hopefully the attached dumps can provide you some info. on my problems. As I'm using this build as my main HTPC, this is becoming a real drag.

Here is some additional info. which might help. As I mentioned, my setup is an HTPC, with me using the Centon Infinity PCI and WMC. The guts of the system is a Gigabyte GA Z68ADHB3 with a Intel i5 2320 processor. Before the reinstall I was using the Rapid Storage Technology function caching to 64GB Crucial SSD, with OP on 2TB WD Black. Did not know if this could be contributing to the problem, so I did not engage in the re-install. Apparently, it was not the issue. As this is my main rig, most BSOD occurred during viewing in WMC. However, not all. Some occurred during regular web browsing. Some while windows was just opened and nothing happening other than the desktop being displayed. Very frustrating. Thanks for any help you can give. System Setting uploaded via System Spec. tool.

    And it is the latest.

And it is the latest, and still crashing. What you can do here that you roll back to the earlier one. Use Driver Fusion to uninstall the installed version, then install the previous version. Search in Intel Download Center.

If it still crashes on igdkmd64.sys, definitely the GPU is bad, but what I am thinking, it is the integrated graphics. I may suggest you to either contract the vendor to check the motherboard, or use a graphics card.

Update it from Ceton Corp - multi-stream TV tuner and digital entertainment solutions.

Also, check the Ram modules, if there is any fault.
    RAM - Test with Memtest86+
Run memtest for at least 8 passes.

    Wow. Great Service and information.

I really don't use the onboard Realtek lan driver as it crashed shortly after install and updating really didn't help. Chalked it up to a bad chip on mobo. Hence, the Intel Gigabit Adapter. Not sure it's relevant.

Regarding the Intel Graphics driver, because I received the first BSOD during install which pointed to 'igdkmd64.sys' indicate a bad GPU right off the bat? Sorry if that sounds stupid.

I also could not get SPDIF output via the Realtek connection on the mobo... hence, the Sound Blaster X-Fi, which it turns out saved me because 5.1 via Intel Graphics caused WMC to crash EVERYTIME when saved in the Control Panel and WMC-LIVE TV was selected.

As a result, I'm now sending 5.1 via optical to my Denon AVR. WMC likes that, I resolved myself that audio and video to WMC was a little too much to ask. However, as a result, the Denon is dedicated to audio, as there is no way to process audio AND process the video to my flat screen. So I'm sending the video from my HTPC via DVI directly to my flat panel HDMI 1 connection which I just realized as I'm typing this is still using the Intel Graphic adapter.

Half way point... discrete GPU and keep truckin, or rebuild. What do you think?

In your situation, I would have swapped my motherboard.

Display, sound and network, all the adapters are seems to be gone in it.

How old is it? Is it still under warranty?

Unfortunately I purchased the motherboard back in March so it's no longer under warranty. I was on the fence on getting a discrete video card when I built the rig. Thinking I may just do that instead of going through the trouble of swapping the mobo. Newegg has the Sapphire Tech 100315L on sale for 135.00 with rebate. What do you think of that as an alternative?

The warranty should be of one year there. Check the terms again.

But if you want to use a graphics card, or even if you plan for a new build, nice plans.

What can I say ... if you use a graphics card keeping the motherboard, it may trouble anytime later. As it is a damaged one.

Thanks for your advice. I think you're correct. better to replace the mobo. I'm going to RMA to Gigabyte.

One last question, based on specs., will this motherboard work as a replacement ASUS P8Z77-V PRO LGA 1155 Intel Z77. I think I did my homework, but as a noob not sure if I overlook something. I know it may be a little overkill, but these BSODs are really annoying.

Thanks again for your support... coming from someone who works in support, it's appreciated!

I am asking my hardware geek friend on this issue ... hope he will post his opinion very shortly. In this particular regard, his opinion is much more valuable than that of me.
