I do have it hooked up to an older APC UPS 1500XS. I realize that backups only go to battery when the power is out but could it be throttling the power the PSU needs to function properly?

At this point, everything is possible. To check, why not disconnect from the UPS and plug into the wall with a power strip or something temporarily, just to make sure. Due to the fact that the power runs through the UPS before going to the computer, I would think a faulty UPS could cause you power problems.

Okay let me try that and see what happens. I'll report back when I have something.

Edit: Could extra hard drives on the system cause this issue? I mean the games are all installed on the C Drive but I was just wondering if the other drives could be causing some kind of timeout or conflict?

They shouldn't. You can check if you want. Most hard drive manufacturers have a diagnostic program you can run. If there is not problem with the drives, it should not cause the issue. Western Digital's is Data Lifeguard.

Okay picked up another UPS...APC. Plugged it up, booted up couldn't even log in without the screen going black and rebooting. Went into safe mode and the 116 error was listed. Then it hit me.....Powerchute. I did not know that Powerchute overrode Windows power management as I thought it was just a program to monitor your UPS systems.

Uninstalled the bloody thing, and tried to reboot and the system kept rebooting at login with the 116 error. So I removed the graphic drivers in safe mode, logged into Windows under a normal boot, reset the power options, reinstalled the graphic drivers and now I can log in. Going to test some games but I have a feeling Powerchute, if not the problem, is part of the problem. I'll let you know soon.

Still crashing. Not sure what to do here. I was thinking maybe something is wrong with cables coming out of the PSU. I know the hardwired cable should be 12v2 but I'm running out of options. Should I try to hook up to the back of the power supply in the 12v2 blue slots? I have 2 pci-e cables handy or would that just be a waste of time? I mean this still could be driver/software related but I don't have a clue.

I'm probably going to try and install windows onto another hard drive and see what happens there. Guess that will narrow it down to hardware versus software. Please advise, thanks.

Sure give the 12v2 blue slots a try, at this point you might find anything, even not so obvious.

I installed Win 7 on another hard drive. I installed nothing but the games and have had zero problems. So evidently the problem is somehow software related but at this point from now on I'm going to have one drive for gaming (no surfing, no other software, nothing, zilch) and one for everything else. I never could track down the problem on the first drive, but no matter. Thanks for the help though. At least I don't have to buy any new hardware for now.
