    Random BSOD, No clue and no pattern?

    Hey everyone!

    I used to get BSODs from a poor quality Hitachi Hard drive that HP put in so I swapped it out for a better quality Seagate, but I've gotten 2 or 3 BSODs since I swapped them maybe 2-3 weeks ago.

    No clue why they happen, last one happened when the computer was just running and I had iTunes playing.

    Running a Windows 7 x64-bit Home Premium

    Its an:

    HP Pavilion dv6t Entertainment PC

    • 2nd generation Intel Dual Core i5-2410M (2.3 GHz, 3MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 2.9GHz
    • 1GB GDDR5 Radeon HD 6490M Graphics [HDMI, VGA]
    • 6GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm) (4GB stick and 2GB stick)
    • 500GB 7200RPM Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
    • Intel 802.11b/g/n WLAN and Bluetooth with Wireless Display Support

    Welcome to the forum.

    BSOD Analyze

    Code:
    *******************************************************************************
    *                                                                             *
    *                        Bugcheck Analysis                                    *
    *                                                                             *
    *******************************************************************************

    Use !analyze -v to get detailed debugging information.

    BugCheck 1000007E, {ffffffffc0000005, fffff80002cd1480, fffff880035a7dc8, fffff880035a7620}

    Probably caused by : fvevol.sys ( fvevol!FveFilterDeviceControl+1d0 )
    Driver Reference Table - fvevol.sys

    The dump shows that you have a bitlocker/drive encription app, disable/stop using them if you have any.

    One of the dump shows memory corruption: Run memtest86+ for 8 passes at least.
    RAM - Test with Memtest86+

    Enable Driver verifier to rule out buggy drivers.
    Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable

    Post back results.

    To be honest I don't know what a bitlocker/drive encription app is.
    To my knowledge, I haven't installed or used anything to encrypt my drive.

    Could it be something HP is running without me knowing?

    I will get right on the memtest and verifier as soon as possible!

    Thank you very much for the reply!!

    Well, My brother bought me ram for my Laptop for my bday.

    so, now im running brand new Crucial ram.
    an 8GB DDR3 1333MHz stick
    and a 4GB DDR3 1333MHz stick

    As for verifier, im running it now for 5 hours, and nothing bad so far!
    (Sorry for the late replies, working 2 jobs and going to school full time can get distracting!)

    Really appreciate the help though :)

    I'm guessing that I should run Verifier for the whole day if not more?

    Hey,

    Happy birthday!

    Capt.Jack Sparrow said:
    Driver Verifier monitors kernel-mode drivers and graphics drivers to detect illegal function calls or actions that might corrupt the system. It can subject the drivers to a variety of stresses and tests to find improper behavior.

    Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly. The objective here is to get the system to crash because Driver Verifier is stressing the drivers out. If it doesn't crash for you, then let it run for at least 36 hours of continuous operation.

    Thank you very much!!

    Alright, I'll run it for the 36 hours then!

    Thanks again :)

    Have a nice weekend, and as soon as I run it for long enough, I'll be sure to post back here with info

    Nope!!

    It's all clear. I'm pretty sure that it was the RAM that was giving me the trouble...so I definitely thank you for bringing that to my attention!!!
