    BSOD on Alienware

    Every time I cold boot, I get the BSOD-then a memory dump. After the memory dump I am given the Windows screen of running Diagnostics or Start Windows normally. I arrow down to Start normally and no problem! I can restart at any time with complete sucess. The dump show an error with .atikmdag.sys. I have read the instructions and hope I can successfully compress and Upload all the files.
    My computer is an Aurora R3 overclocked to 3.4. Intel 4 core processor with hyper threading. It is water cooled and I can find nothing wrong by running all the Dell Diagnostics-hdwe. wise so I think it's a problem with the AMD driver.
    There goes nothing!

    The settings are as you describe. I tried to compress them as advised. I renamed he folder as described. I don't know of anything else to say> I ABSOLUTELY mean no disrespect to you ar anyone, but if the file I sent in is not showing my BSOD problem I don't know what else to try.
    The setting are to over wrie exisiting files-could that be the problem as to why you aren't seeing my problem? Or is it Because I already gone through the process before using the tool I down loaded. I can do another-send another report-if I can find where I posted that one. The instructions I read said to post it in General Discussion.
    Please advise,
    harmie Johnson

    Well, the crash was caused by your ATI Display driver.
    Code:
    *******************************************************************************
    *                                                                             *
    *                        Bugcheck Analysis                                    *
    *                                                                             *
    *******************************************************************************

    Probably caused by : atikmdag.sys ( atikmdag+1cf1 )

    And, it is not the latest one, there are possible updates.
    Code:
    kd> lmvm atikmdag
    start             end                 module name
    fffff880`05a4c000 fffff880`06546000   atikmdag T (no symbols)
        Loaded symbol image file: atikmdag.sys
        Image path: \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\atikmdag.sys
        Image name: atikmdag.sys
        Timestamp:        Fri Apr 06 07:18:25 2012 (4F7E4B69)
        CheckSum:         00AABC48

        Translations:     0000.04b0 0000.04e4 0409.04b0 0409.04e4
    If possible, get the updates. But if it is not a single crash after 26/09, you may overlook it for now.

    Thanks for your time and confirmation. I just cant understand why AMD can't get it right. It may have something to do with this Dell Alienware R3. Dell promised me, while purchasing, that this was a new revolution in computers and the Drivers would always be kept up-to- date! I wanted a all Intel computer but could not get anyone to build me one. I should have know better than believe a Sales Engineer from Dell. Check on their website for a Aurora R3 Desktop and go to driver and updates! Same old story and I am stupid because I ended up with a $3,000.00 refurbished Alienware with a Seagate hybrid SSD! It is as slow as a HHD and Seagate offers no updates!
    Well I guess I am learning but at 58 years of age I should have already learned!
    An all Intel would have no problems getting updates! No one would agree to the Graphics Intel offers. They claim it's not up to their standards!
    One more thing. All updates-including the newer one, installs very slowly and says -Errors- Other hardware detected! The other hdwe is in number format and foreign to me!
    Thanks again,
    Harmie

    Harmie BSOD

    Yes i have download their driver finder and still get the error message and the BCOD every time. After a while-like right now-Windows appears to avid the start up error. It is very slow to start, but after many-many BCODs, it will start Okay.
    I I get an update from Windows or AMD-I get the BCOD over and over for a couple of weeks.
    I am just not going to download a new driver from any where other than Dell. They have modified the Graphics Driver to include something else-thus the error message. However I doubt Dell will ever update it again!
    Thanks
    Harmie
