Can someone please take a look at this? I seriously can't keep my laptop on for more than an hour without it crashing, hanging, or randomly restarting itself. Then when I try rebooting it after it crashes, hangs or whatever else half the time it doesn't even turn back on. Let me apologize beforehand because I'm computer illiterate. Anyhow there's 3 lights on the bottom of my laptop (I have an HP G71). Theres a power indicator, and lightening bolt, and a stack of 3 cds. When the laptop boots up succsessfully the power light and the "3 cds" lights up. Yet when it just sits there and the num & caps lock lights flash, the "3 cds" light doesnt light up. Literally everything lights up, the power light, track pad light, wifi light etc but it just sits there. I have to restart my laptop about 3 or 4 times before it boots up like normal. You can't imagine how annoying this is getting.

I attached everything that was needed. I apologize again for being computer illiterate and I hope I did this right. Thanks SO much in advance!

Welcome aboard, lily.

It says, Probably caused by "hardware"

May be, but before blaming the hardware, let us have a deeper look.

Mozy Inc. online backup driver

Uninstall it.

Avast antivirus.

Uninstall it, too. Use Microsoft Security Essentials - Free Antivirus for Windows.

Do these two changes and let us know the results.

*PS. upload your MSINFO32.nfo file.

  1. Click on the start button
  2. Type "msinfo32" (without quotes) in the search bar of the start menu, click the resulting link. It will open the System Information window.
  3. File>Save. In the "File Name" filed, put "MSINFO32" (without Quote), give the save location to desktop, and click the "save" button.
  4. Give the time for processing, it will save a .nfo file on your desktop.
  5. Zip it, and upload it following the instruction.

Thanks alot for your reply!! :)

The hardware part does make sense, I sent my computer off to get fixed in May because I dropped it and broke the "SRI" I think it was. Whatever that is. When I got it back I assumed it was fixed because everything was put back together and well, yeah.

Anyhow, I did do what you suggested. I uninstalled Mozy and avast, and also Zone Alarm because if MSE comes with a firewall no need for that, right? I just restarted my computer so it hasnt had a chance to freeze, crash or do whatever yet and hopefully it doesnt for a while..lol.

My msinfo32.nfo file is attached, thanks again!

Have you done the changes suggested earlier?

With MSE, you are to use windows inbuilt firewall.

If there are further crashes, upload the latest dumsp.

Yes I did make the changes you suggested. I uninstalled everything you asked and installed MSE.
I haven't had any BSOD's yet, but I have still been having trouble with it restarting randomly, and hanging.

I'll try my best!
Well, around May-ish I dropped my laptop. It was fine after I initially dropped it, even though you could tell it was broken (it had physical damage you could see). Then about a month later I started getting random lockups and such. My mom took it to get fixed, and they said my "SRI" (?) was the culprit. They had it for about a week and a half and when I got it back it looked fixed, and was running a lot faster than before. However it was still locking up and crashing.
Not too long after my mom took it in the warranty ran out so we never took it back.
I eventually did a bunch of google searches, just searching up my symptoms and what not and came across someone on another forum with a similar problem, this person blamed their registry and was suggested to download a program called Glary Utilities. Of course, I downloaded the program too thinking we had the same problem. I ran the registry cleaner and it was actually like a quick fix. I went about a week without any crashes, lockups, random restarts and all of that. Then it started happening again. I once again, ran the registry cleaner on Glary Utilities and once again it fixed it but this time it only lasted a few days. Which was fine, the longer my laptop acted like a normal computer the better. But then the registry cleaner quickfix stopped working and now I'm here.
What I do seem to notice, is that it tends to lockup more when I'm watching videos. Youtube, netflix, even if it's not streaming and just playing on Windows Media Player. This is particularly annoying because when it does this it makes this god awful noise and just..ugh. So frustrating!
Another thing I notice; and I said this in my original post was that smoetimes when I have to reboot my laptop after a crash, lockup, or whatever, is that it doesnt turn on right away. I turn it on, and the lights (num & caps lock, power indicator and wifi) come on, but it sits there. I have to turn it off and re turn it on all over again. It's locked up a few times before it even started, sometimes on the VERY first screen when you first turn it on and it says HP. Sometimes on the "Starting Windows" animation thing, hell it even crashed in safe mode once. Maybe twice.
So I think that' my situation in full detail. I hope it helps and I really hope you can help me! I'm desperate here lol. Thank you!!

How old are you, lily ?

I guess you will be able to understand me. When a computer is physically broken, then the best policy is to replace the damaged hardware parts. But, damages caused by some external causes is not covered in warranty. As your warranty is over, you take it to a mechanic, ask him to check which part is damaged and replace that part.

As the warranty is over, opening the laptop will not cause any warranty violation anymore, so you may do it, without any problem other than a big one.

The problem is: licensing. The OEM licenses are tagged with hardware, mainly motherboard. But any type of hardware change may cause a trouble in subsequent activation and validation. So, you first make a system image. Follow the tutorial: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/663-backup-complete-computer-create-image-backup.html. Get a few blank DVDs to take the backup. Save the DVDs secured after taking the backups, so that in case you can restore the backup and get an activated copy of windows.

Now you take it to the technician. Identify the damaged parts and replace those.

I guess it is the only feasible way to overcome your problems.
