    BOSD happened randomly

    Hello,

I recently got a BSOD. My computer was working perfectly yesterday, however today when I started my computer for the first time it crashed and I got a BSOD.

I have uploaded my .dmp file and some additional info.

Any help to troubleshoot my computer is much appreciated.

    Thank you

    • Click on the Start
    • Type msinfo32 into the Search programs and files box
    • When it opens, go to File, Save
    • Save as msinfo32.nfo and save in a place you will remember
    • Let it finish the process of gathering and saving the system info
    • Right click the .nfo file, click send to compressed (zipped) folder
    • Upload the .zip file here.

Norton is a known cause to BSoDs. Please uninstall it and all its components using the Norton Removal Tool.

If the removal tool does not help: try uninstalling with Revo Uninstallers Advanced Mode (registry leftover)

Download and install Microsoft Security Essentials, make a full scan once updated.

Run the System File Checker for integrity of all protected Windows 7 system files and replaces incorrect corrupted, changed/modified, or damaged versions with the correct versions if possible.

Then run Disk Check for hard disk for file system errors and bad sectors on it.

Also check for a BIOS update:
    Code:
    BIOS Version/Date	American Megatrends Inc. K84L.205, 8/25/2011
    Let us know the results.

As soon as I have time to follow the steps you provided, I'll give an update on how it went.

Also, would you reccomend kaspersky as an alternative to norton?

I wouldn't cause I haven't used it. But it does cause BSoDs as well + a slower start up.
MSE is free and light weight. Most compatible with windows 7. Suggest Malware Bytes if you prefer extra security.

You may take a look at → Good and Free system security combination. if you have time.

    Hi KoolKat77

    This is what happened;

After doing a system restore to 9-25-12, my computer worked again, however Norton would not boot. I kept getting an error message number: 8504, 104

Your suggestion of norton causing the BSOD looks accurate.

So I went ahead and did the following steps you provided, (except check for a BIOS update which I'll do at a later date) and now my computer is running fine again.

If anything else should happen I'll post back again,

Until then, Thank you for your support.

    Thanks for the update

Yup, BIOS update can be done later (but they're always good). First check if your computer is stable after removing Norton for a few days.

Let us know if there are any other problems, good luck :)
