    BSOD 0x000000E1 - Alienware M17 R3 When downloading Torrents

    Hi,

I am hoping someone can help me here. I have been going through the forums here and they seem to get success so here is my problem.

    I have recently been getting the BSOD with WORKER_THREAD_RETURNED_AT_BAD_IRQL1. This has started all of a sudden over the last week. To date I have tried the following;

Restore to earliest point (about 3 weeks)

Uninstalled all recent software a piece at a time

Check memory test (this returned no issues however I had to manually re-boot)

    Checked disk integrity

I have come to a stand still and have followed the instructions provided in these forums for the diagnostic tool which is attached.

As stated, this has been only a recent issue over the last week or so. I have McAfee, and noticed in other responses this could be an issue but have unloaded it with the same result (I have it back on now).

I have an Alienware M17 R3 running Windows 7 Premium 64 bit. It has the following config

    I7-2760QM
    BIOS version 10/2/12
    SMBIOS 2.7
    8.00gb RAM
Netforce NVIDIA GTX 560M Driver Version 8.17.12.6903

The issue with the BSOD only occurs, so far, when I have a torrent client running and then access any browser, though it may not just be the browser that sets it off. I had been using Vuze but have removed it and loaded Qtorrent. That has not made a difference as it still happens. The BSOD does not happen straight away after the torrent client is loaded but a little while after.

I am hoping someone may be able to help as it is driving me crazy and keeping me away from my TV shows (lol) Any assistance would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Mark

You're having McAfee and MSE right? Running two antiviruses would cause conflict and my suggestion anyway would be to get rid of McAfee as it's known to cause BSoDs.

And how did you uninstall McAfee? Did you uninstall with it's removal tool? Made sure no leftovers?

You can also enable driver verifier, let's see if it points us to any particular driver.

    Hi KoolKat,

Yes I removed it using a removal tool I saw on another post.

I have enabled the verifier and will force another BSOD. I take it I use the Diagnostic again (after reboot) and upload the result?

    Thanks

Yup.. You should keep it enabled for 36 hours, or until you're asked to disable it.

    Hi again,

It took all of about 4 seconds after loading qtorrent for the system to crash.

I have attached a new diags. I had to disable the verifier as when my system went to re-boot after the crash it went to system repair and just continued to hang. I tried to re-boot again but it did not work so I booted in safe mode and turned verifier off. If I need to turn it back on again I will but I am not sure how it will work.

    Your advice is much appreciated.

    Thanks

Look for a possible update on this software driver. They are kinda old and may be causing BSoDs.
And, uninstall either MSE or McAfee from your system, two antiviruses will create more problems for you.

    Hi KoolKat,

I have removed MSC (only beacause I have paid for the McAfee so want to get my monies worth). I looked for an updated driver as suggested. Could not find one so deleted both instances in the device manager of the Renesas Controller and hub. I thought by deleting them and re-booting, if the hardware was necessary, then it would reload a fresh version of the driver.

I have now been up and running for a fw hours and it has not crashed. It has now created a new issue.

I am now getting a Intel Wifi error on startup. No internet connection until I run a troubleshooter. Then it enables it and I have wifi again. I am trying to download new drivers at this point to see if there is a driver issue.

Thanks very much for the assistance you gave. It helped immensely.

    Thanks

    Mark.

To me you should uninstall McAfee and keep MSE. Then update the drivers of intel wifi driver and that possibly should fix your issue

I've seen BSoD threads solved just by the uninstallation of McAfee and replacing with MSE

Did you disable verifier? Did the BSODs reoccur with McAfee installed?

Hi, The BSOD has now gone, thankfully. At least in all the testing to date anyway. McAfee is still installed but I have removed essentials.
My issue now is an intermittent loss of wifi. Sometimes when I boot it works, other times I have to play with settings and re install software. Very annoying but something I think I will get Dell out to look at if it continues. Basically my wifi network disappears and I can see next door neighbors one only. Yet if I get on another machine here I can connect without issue. I then normally have to troubleshoot and re install the wifi software again and eventually it starts up again. It could be an update issue but I have backtracked and still cannot locate the issue.
