    tethered PC shuts down while unattended - BSOD


    If I leave my computer on for a while, for instance overnight, it often shuts itself down. When I come back and turn it on, I get the DOS style screen which asks me if I want to boot into Safe Mode.

    I choose the option to boot normally, and everything is fine.

    This problem started 2 weeks ago after installing several new software programs including PdaNet, Photoshop Elements, CyberLink PowerDirector, and Premiere Elements.

    I suspect the problem lies with PdaNet and how the USB handles sleep mode, but I'm not entirely sure. Any help would be appreciated.

    For some reason your dumps aren't loading for me , I've asked a friend to see if it's the same with him.

    What I can suggest from seeing your other files is,

    Problematic software:
    Code:
    Start Menu\Programs\Norton Security Suite	Public:Start Menu\Programs\Norton Security Suite	Public
    Norton alone is a known cause to BSoDs, suggest you to uninstall it
    Download and install Microsoft Security Essentials (at least to test)



    Run the System File Checker that scans the integrity of all protected Windows 7 system files
    and replaces incorrect corrupted, changed/modified, or damaged versions
    with the correct versions if possible


    Free up your start-up, keep nothing except the new antivirus:


    Update your graphic card drivers to their latest version:

    First uninstall older drivers, uninstall following the easy way:
    Click on the start -> Control Panel -> Programs -> Uninstall a program

    Avoid the Catalyst Control Center during installation by choosing "Custom"

    Thanks for the reply, koolkat, I will keep your suggestions in mind. For now, I have gone in to the power save mode settings and turned off the USB option. (honestly I forget the exact name of the setting)

    So far, I haven't had any more issues where the computer shuts down unexpectedly while sleeping. Cross fingers, we'll see if this continues to work...
