can any one help a ludite? I have a hp pavillion g series laptop.

    Hi
I really do not know anything about operating systems and all the clever things you seem to talk about on this site.

I tripped this morning from getting up from sofa, so not a high height more went - flying forward at knee height, laptop in hand which went up a few inches in the air and landed safely back on my laptop lap tray that I use. Bit like tossing a pancake - ha. Difficulty closing down but did eventually.

Tried to start up again this afternoon and got a flash of the blue screen for a second then went to black screen giving option of running start up repair - which it recommended.

Luckily I have been able to borrow a laptop to get on this forum!

I have has start up repair running for almost two hours - is this normal or am I wasting my time?

Is there something else I should be doing instead or should I just be more patient?

Is this likely to fix the problem this start up repair?

Typical if it offers to run a Disk Check and then it gets lost in a loop trying to complete it.

Check in BIOS setup that HD is even detected. If not try physically reinstalling HD to reseat contacts. You can google a video how to do this for almost any make/model.

If HD is detected run the HD maker's HD diagnostics extended CD scan to see if it can be repaired.

If neither works, replace the HD.
