    Problems Since Installing W7 64-bit over 32-bit (Wot, TSW, GW2, Firefo


    My friend who built my computer a couple years ago accidentally installed W7 32-bit, which I never had any problems with, except that I couldn't utilize my 6G of RAM, so I finally bought 64-bit and installed it this summer. Since then I've had a lot of problems.

    WoT has not worked since the installation, which is no big deal, except that it's weird. A number of other BSOD issues followed, and after GW2 replied to my many crash reports showing video hardware problems, I finally bought a new vid card--EVGA 560ti. This did not seem to install correctly, but after a few hours I managed to install the latest driver and the game ran great.

    Then it started crashing again--not as bad as before, but crashing nonetheless (and Firefox crashes *constantly*).

    When I started having problems with 64 right after installation, I suspected drivers, and updated every single one. Then I thought it might be memory and ran memtest86. Only the vid card remained a suspect, though--well, with two exceptios: 1) I thought maybe there was some BIOS issue related to the 64 upgrade, but the ASUS board was built for 32/64; 2) I thought there might be a voltage issue since I installed the ASUS Turbo feature, and also Precision, and OC tuner. I would note that I did not have these installed prior to 64. I would further note that I cannot change from Turbo in BIOS--I have no idea why. The computer just seems locked in Turbo (there are supposed to be 2 lesser options that will be more stable). I mention this just to help you diagnose the problem, since I don't know how much info the files I've uploaded provide...

    Well, my best friend finally referred me here, so if anyone could interpret the data I'm uploading, I would appreciate it!!

    Hi Peter,

    BSOD bugcheck 1a's can be difficult to intepret, and could have multiple causes.

    You mentioned you ran memtest. Can you confirm that you ran MemTest86+ for at least 7 passes (typically overnight) and that there were no errors?

    RAM - Test with Memtest86+

    Ran memtest86 7x as instructed...


    ...and no problems were reported.

    While I was in BIOS, though, I checked some settings and found that my CPU is set to max. Perhaps that plus my MB set to TURBO (=MAX out of 3 settings) could be causing problems...?

    The 560ti is running beautifully, and I seem to run GW2 without crashing too often. I checked forums and a lot of people with new and very powerful rigs are crashing--some of them can't even play--so I feel more like it's the game and less like it's my rig now, which I hope is true.

    I'm going to load a f2p game just to see if it plays well without crashing.

    Do you think I should run another browser besides Firefox? What might be a more stable option...?

    Hi,

    I think Firefox is fine. I would dial down the CPU and turbo settings in the BIOS, and see how the system holds up.

    I finally figured out how to restore BIOS to default, although this might not be what I should be doing. I deleted all of the MB OC stuff, memtest86 (ran 7x as instructed), made sure all drivers were updated--I even dug out my W7/64 installation disk and tried to run the system repair ("upgrade failed").

    Nothing works, and I got 2 BSOD Memory Management errors playing WoT in less than 10 minutes. I don't want to damage my system so I'm going to break down and bring it to the shop unless someone has any last chance suggestions. I've done my best and I'm out of ideas. I got one error that didn't even get any google hits!

I just built my new PC, and I installed 32 bit windows on it. Now, I want to install 64 over the 32 bit installation. Putting the 64 bit disc (legit copy) into the PC and clicking on setup, or any files on the setup disc, it says "This version is not compatable with the 32 bit version of windows....
