Looks good.

Did you have any BSODs after the changes made to your computer?

Thank you. Yes the display still freezes or goes blank shortly after startup requiring hard reboot. Takes many attempts to get going. Windows error log says "Video hardware error". 18 month old standard Dell desktop. Only thing I couldn't completely do in your instructions was delete all the NVIDIA as I require the driver for the NVIDIA graphics card.

Well proceed with driver reinstallation and let us know your progress.

Also keep a check on the hardware temperatures:
For monitoring the heat/celsius of the system, use Speccy or HWinfo:

OK since you mentioned temperature, I found this post (Nvidia Geforce GT 220 Overheating Alot) which is the same graphics card I have. I ran speccy and then overclocker and every time it locks up at GPU temperature 85C. Took the cover off to keep it at 80C and overclocker works every time. Fans are working and not much dust, but they suggested trying a fan speed adjustment using EVGA precision. What do you think?

Try these steps to install only the graphics driver.

1.Download the preferred driver and save it to the desktop.
2.Double click the installer and you will see a screen where it will be extracted to, change that to your desktop.
3.Open Device Manager through Control Panel.
4.Expand Display adapters and right click the name for yours and choose Update Driver\Browse my Computer. Select the driver folder you just saved on the desktop. Click Next.
5. Your system should say "Windows has successfully updated your driver software".

If you get a window saying you already have the most current driver, go back to step 4 and choose Uninstall Driver software instead. Then restart from step 3.
